CueTable Tournament - Who's in?

With the new random rack feature of the updated Wei Table, the Cue Table, at www.cuetable.com , I had an idea for an kind of tourney challenge here in the AZ forum.

I want 8 volunteer players to begin.

I also want 3 official judges. I'll be one, so we need 2 more.

This will be an 8 player single elimination tournament.

Players that draw each other in the first round get the same random table layout. The challenge is to present the best OUT PLAN from that position. The player that receives the most judges points progresses to the semi-final and so on.

To make it fair, the entrants should PM the html code of their final solution to me, so that the other player cannot copy their ideas. I'll edit these up into a jpeg and present the two solutions side by side so everyone else can give their 2c. But please refrain from offering solutions or advice until the players have submitted their solutions.

To get the html code, all you do is click the red record button on the screen and then paste it whereever you want it.

Here is my sample OUT PLAN example (html then jpeg image):
http://CueTable.com/P/?01IhK02VC(03q%^04yO~05TRs06)BM07OU^08f^k09L}t10)ru11lrH12yKk13^|^14)z|15Kg|16bmF19!)O28f^kg~W29L}tDIe30)ru|~K31lrHhPo32yKk}EK33^|^|%E34)z||%E35Kg|DZg36bmF(jfvoz(g|rN*wxA{ju^oTz}OqLGl%ydMYLfcD$bWzkNIeZpefOA

You should plan the out on the assumption that you are a pro-level player, not a god though.

Ok...volunteers who think they can use the cuetable? Once I get 8 I'll make the draw and give out the table challenges.

A couple of judges? Should know a bit about the game.

This is subjective, and judges could make stupid decisions, but it should provide a bit of fun and an interesting way to study and discuss OUT PLANNING and for us to become familiar with the new Wei Table.

I'll play, sounds like a lot of fun to me! We can eliminate the "It's a young persons game" delema!

Great idea! I was trying to figure out a way to do something like this... I am in!

Judging Criteria as Follows

OUT PLAN SUCCESS ESTIMATE (OPSE): 20 points
PATH ACCURACY: 10 points
PATH SIMPLICITY: 10 points
PROBLEM BALL HANDLING : 10 points

Total Score for each player will be out of 50 points.
The average score from the judges decide the winner.

Wow...a tournament where I'm guaranteed not to miss a straight-in or easy cut shot due to my screwed up alignment and stroke! It's a dream. ;)

I'd love to play, but that means I won't get any work done the next couple of days. Maybe next time. Great idea though Calc!

jsp,
My idea was to do one round per day, so you've got all day to do your one game if you enter. So event will be:
Quarters: today (Tuesday)
Semis: Wednesday
Final: Thursday

Could be a weekly tourney if popular.

I think there should be some goals or guide lines or something that we are looking to achieve. Can we come up with something more clear cut than just "best out plan"

For example maybe points for things like 1. most very easy shots. 2. most keeping cue ball near center table. 3. best use of cue ball that give options along the way. (not sure about that one) 4. keeping most obvious ball available for position on the 8. 5 best overall out plan. etc. etc.

I'm not saying just use these, but something like this. I'm sure there are better ideas. Then judges can give points to both players for different things. Then you could have a score like PlayerA 7 PlayerB 5. This just sounds a little better and more fun to me.

I'll play. I don't really like the creativity factor. I think it should be based on ease of out and likelihood.

The judging criteria came right off the top of my head....same place a lot of crappy ideas came from.

If no one else disagrees, I'll just incorporate whatever creative aspects that are well done into the OUT Likelihood and dealing with Problem Balls scoring parts. So make it out of 50 points total...a good round number.

We should get a better idea of how to assess it once it gets underway.

Good ideas JR,
I think we'll need to try to incorporate all those into the OUT PLAN SUCCESS ESTIMATE. Judges should give feedback on what they see and why they scored as such.

Maybe as the discussion goes on, we can develop some useful formulas and categories for judging, that would also be helpful guides in real life play.

Hopefully all players will know this is subjective, and the feedback from forum viewers may be the most useful, insightful, rewarding. You'll get to know what it's like for Ice Skaters:o ..:D

Can I be a pain in the Ass? Collin, your volunteering to organize this is so generous I almost hate to mention it but it came up on the first match so I'll say something. I think if there is a questionable shot like the 15 getting past the 1 ball in Match 1's table. Can it be established that the 15 either does or doesn't clearly pass?

Match 4

Match 4: thoffen v Captain JR
JR can get started.

Remember...don't post your results. Send the URL to me. Else the opponent can copy your brilliant ideas.
