What do you look at in the shaft wood? Details please... Is dark shaft wood better?

Why do some shafts play much better than others?

Can you talk about the cutting process for the shaft wood?

What makes the southwest taper so special?

What are you thoughts about people complaining about taper roll, or shafts warping?

Can you talk about tonal qualities on a cue, how important is sound?

What makes the southwest hit?

Which woods produce hard and soft hitting cues?

What is the main differences between pre-dates, franklins, and current SW cues? Are the Franklins better?

Has Southwest changed its cue specs over the years?

Talk about the slim-butt option.

What makes SW cues so well balanced?

How do you compare Southwest Cues to Kersenbrocks, Benders, and Ed Youngs? Differences and similarities?

How many 12point recuts have you made? Are you planning to do more? How come you don't make many fancy cues?

How many cues do you currently produce a year?

Why is there a ten year wait when you can add up all the sales for every other cue maker on earth and not come up with a 10 year wait?

TAR Edition cue???

Has he seen a change in the availability of quality maple or exotic woods through the years?

How would he describe the hit of South West Cues to someone that hasn't shot with one?

What is the most difficult thing for a cue builder to learn? Any tips for overcoming it?

Does he anticipate making a special TAR cue? Maybe a TAR could raffle??

Does SW still use a compound taper on the butt of the cues? (I dont have a SW, just heard it no longer comes with a compound taper)

If it was removed, what was the reasoning behind the change?

What part of the cue making did Jerry do in his last years? Every part, some parts, none?
I've heard conflicting things such as he only did the finish, others say he wasnt as involved. Please confirm how involved he was with the cue making process.

+1000 I too wanna know this. I actually wish Laurie instead of AL would come on TAR and squash all the hearsay about its some grand marketing strategy to inflate the SW market. And that their construction techniques or how they season their wood etc doesn't justify a 10 year wait.

And oh, Im taking delivery of my SW tomorrow. Yes I waited 10 years, no i didnt lose sleep over waiting. Especially when I didn't put a deposit. Or was lied to on delivery times. It was a pleasure to work with them throughout the build process. The folks at SW are a total class act.

How unique that a topic posted on AZ would turn into a debate.

I'm curious about their numbering system and how many cues they make a year. I've seen plenty of pins numbered in the 300s and always figured that to mean they made 300+, but I've been told they started in the 100s for some reason. If they do start with an odd number (Burton Spain started at 1492) I'd like to know where and what significance?

Thanks for these cue maker interviews.

Mr. Lawrence may decide these questions to be off limits and I would understand since Southwest is a privately held business. But I'd still like to know about the business side of the custom cue business.

Southwest is one of the most successful custom cue builders in history. So I'd like to know the following:

  1. What were Southwest's top line sales last 5 years?
  2. What was your very best year in sales?
  3. What kind of gross margins does a business like yours make?
  4. How many share holders are there in your organization?
  5. How many employees does Southwest employ?
  6. Do all employees draw a salary?
  7. Are there shares of your company for sale?

Yeah....and how much did you make last year, whats the balance in your checking account and are you still beating your wife?

I sure as shit wouldnt answer any of those questions and I'm not going to ask them of anyone else. It surprises me that you actually thought the result could be any different.
