I am planning on buying this lathe http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=287725 and I dont like the three wheel steady rest system for the butt of the shaft. I am looking for a Bearing type of Hightower steady rest, does anybody know if one of his or anybody elses would fit on this track or where i could get one? I have contacted Hightower but no reply..

Take a steady rest and mount it to an adjustable Tri Pod and make up collets. They have very small Tri Pods for cameras and very large ones.

That is 8020 you can buy linear bearings for that you just need to know the size. Ive made a few

When spending money verses spending time to convert, your usually better off spending the money on the right gear right from the beginning IMHO.
You may be better off to buy a Hightower or TSP&B lathe already set to go. This other lathe will require changes, that once done (and your happy with) when added to the price you paid up front, and the changes, you will have paid almost the same to have it work right out of the box, without the headache of searching online for parts, and then doing the work for it all to work right.
Just my take on it,
Dave
I like things to work well, right out of the box.
