With the help of Spiderwebb and others, we have made some changes to the server and hopefully the speed issues will be better now.

Please let me know what sort of speeds you are seeing on the forums.

Mike

By some miracle, the times for accessing the different links/forums etc. has been cut by 80% or so it seems.

Good job SpiderwebComm and Mike Howerton!

It's better but I still had to wait for the adserver, although not as long as earlier in the day.
Thanks for the work.

Stan

I think that if anyone has speed issues....
..they should just learn to say no...

I'm not taking any credit. Sean Leinen is REALLY smart w/ this stuff. Basically, I couldn't fix it and I called Sean as a phone-a-friend lifeline. We're not sure it's fixed yet, but I think we're well on track.

Good job,
Mr. Mike. It is faster now. I have to watch those new stop sign cameras now!
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

Aww man! I thought I was going to be "the janitor" -- you know, the mafia clean-up man sent in after a "hit" to make the place look like nothing happened, and, the person that noone is supposed to know about! :D J/K, thanks for the kind words.

Folks, keep a sharp eye on the forum performance -- specifically initial load/start times (when you first open a browser to "forums.azbilliards.com") as compared to browsing from thread to thread when you're already here. We think we homed-in on what's causing the sluggishness, and we're having the appropriate entities look into it and make tweaks. This will be ongoing today.

Let us know if you see any drastic change in the performance, good or bad.

Just now, the forum load (http://forums.azbilliards.com) took a little longer to load, but when I'm here... it seems to be really good. Sean, check your email.

Looks like posting replies is still a little slow. Browsing and loading posts seem faster though.

I think you may have upped it bit too much.
I logged on earlier and found myself replying to a post I made two days ago. While I was sitting there wondering what the hell was going on, a wasp landed on my neck. I was afraid to swat it, in fear of disrupting the space/time continuum, so now I don't know whether to shit or go blind.

The problem for me used to be both opening a new post, and submitting a reply.
After a while the browser or server gives up and I see my browser's standard timeout page.

Lately, maybe due to these changes, posts open pretty reliably without timing out. But submitted replies still flake out as often as they ever did (say 5 ish times a day).

What I notice now is... after submitting, I think I get to the timeout page faster than before. It used to be a lengthy wait for the forum or the browser gave up and said "sorry dude, your post didn't go through". Now, it gets there right away.

In the past I've had posts fail to go through more than once. But lately they always succeed on the second try if I just go back and then hit submit again.

It's hard to know if I might be reading too much into it and the problem hasn't changed at all. I already got a timeout today. This post might be another one. edit: this one went through surprisingly... took about 50 seconds though. Sometimes it seems like a lock to time out if I spend a long time composing the post.

Maybe all of this is just a resources issue? Maybe the server/host is overloaded and flaky and no settings change on our end can fix that.

Folks:

Thank you so much for the reports -- keep 'em coming. We're monitoring this closely, and we're in close touch with the entity responsible for what we found.

No, it's not a server/host resource issue. This server is not even breathing heavy. CPU/memory/semaphores/network/...etc. statistics are all normal. The delays we found are actually outside of this server, and like I said, we're working with the entity responsible to see if we can get to the bottom of it.

Keep the reports coming, though -- good or bad.

Sometime quick, sometimes 10 seconds to do something. For me the slow ones are maybe 1 in 10 or 20.

We think we may have found the problem. Still working on it though.

Thanks everyone.

Good job, Sean. Apparently, you are da man, when it comes to this stuff.
