Need help identifying old case?

Hi All,

I need some help to see if anyone can ID an old case I just got from a good friend. The interior, latch, and leather all scream Fellini to me, but the ends are obviously not Fellini type ends.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking maybe

1. an old Ann Gore? (I have one before with similar ends, but they were leather coated and it had a slightly different latch),

2. old Schon case (again the ones I have seen had Fellini type ends).

3. old George case maybe? the end material look a lot like the plastic on the original It's George cases, but maybe not as thick?

4. Kelli (sp?) Case? I don't know a lot about the Kelli cases..help me out here?

5. Older Ron Thomas?

My friend that I got it from said the tubing was dimensionally the same as a Fellni he had. Case came from the east coast. I can see no indications that I ever had a label in it.

Any ideas would be appreciated! I'm considering selling it at some point.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the input so far! Looks like the majority vote is leaning towards this being an older Ron Thomas.

Keep the opinions coming with this bump for today!

JAlan and I made a deal for the case and I have it now.

I am thrilled with it.

It is definitely a high quality case but I am unsure who made it.

It is shorter than my Fellini, but my Fellini lid fits on it. The lid from this case does not seem to fit on the Fellini though, it might if I pushed harder but I am not going to try that. Suffice it to say the tube dimensions are extremely close to Fellini.

It is just shy of 32 1/2 inches long.

It has features of several different cases.

I will refinish the leather and it will look pristine. The hardware will polish up and have some patina. Altogether I would say it's a great case. As for the interior it is nearly perfect and very high quality, it still smells new in fact.

If anybody has any further guesses as to who the maker might be, please post it.

FYI: JAlan was great to deal with. He followed through with everything, very effective communications, and bubble wrapped the heck out of the case. :)

Chopdoc,
I truly believe that case to be an early unmarked It's George. It very well could be a Thomas but I have a early George 2x2 with the Fellini style lock and the EXACT same leather. I do understand leather could be used that looks the same by different makers but for me to say its very spot on is an understatement. I've seen 2 other It's George cases that were unmarked and had confirmation from Mike Roberts that they were his. All with the same lock and leather pattern. I could be wrong but that's what makes me think It's George.........Nice Case!

Thank you.

I would love it if you could post pics of yours.

In addition, I need to ask, does yours have a sewn side seam like is typical with It's George? This cue has a glued seam in the back like Fellini etc.

I have never seen a George with this kind of seam, but I don't deny you may be quite right.

Maybe now that Mike Roberts is back at making cases I can contact him about it? Does anybody have contact info for him?

I have already cleaned, conditioned, re-dyed, polished, and sealed the leather and frankly it looks amazing. Even my wife was impressed. LOL!

The seam in the leather is very well done, the lining is very high quality, the ends are very well padded inside, and the case generally feels like a high quality item.

Incidentally, my Fellini key does fit the lock and the lock works fine (after I carefully cleaned it out of course).

At the moment it is home to my Espiritu cue...which is now screaming to be refinished and get a second shaft made just to properly fill the case if nothing else.

This is a serious case, no doubt.

OK...here we go...with the leather done up nice. I only wiped down the hardware though, I haven't polished it yet. Sorry some of the pics are not so great, but you get a great idea of how the leather came out anyway. All the little marks are gone, and the plastic ends polished up nice too. It has the deep glow of finely finished leather.

Your case came out very nice!

Thank you.

I am leaning toward calling it an early It's George at this point. I would love to see if that can be verified by Mike Roberts. Any way you slice it, it's a great case and a keeper for me.

EDIT:

Here it is with my Fellini-

There is a case in this Ebay sale and it says it is an It's George case. The case looks strikingly similar, except it is brown. The leather pattern is the same and it looks to have the same end caps.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: I sent a message to the seller asking if there was any label on the case.

EDIT 2: The seller got back to me and says there is no label. The identification came much as this one...general consensus.

I am hoping at some point to get the word of Mike Roberts on this.

The case looks GREAT Chop!!

I agree, this case looks just like the one on eBay with the brown pattern. I too though have never seen a George with a glued and butted seam like that one has on the back? Clothdude I think is the one who started the 'It's George' thread, maybe he'll look into this for us? Curious minds want to know!!

And thanks for the kind words on the trade...You also are a true gentlemen to deal with!

PS: I can't seem to find my Bushka, did I leave it in that case???

Bushka? What Bushka? I don't see any Bushka...

I have sent out a couple PMs to people who I think might be able to help. I'll ask Clothdude as well.

The case made her maiden voyage with me Sunday night to my favorite dive bar with a pool table. She carried the old Huebler in style. Period correct and classy. I can't help it...I like the old stuff. :)

I had a case just like this one. I got it with a Schick cue I bought on eBay. The guy told me the case was with the cue when he bought it in 1981...it was hard to believe because the case looked almost new. I ask Ron Thomas if he made the case when I saw him several years ago at either the US Open or SBE...he said it wasn't his...and it couldn't be an It's George either if the guy, did indeed, get it in 1981...so it has always been a mystery to me as well...I do know it was made very well and has thin black plastic end caps..much thinner than all the It's George cases I've had...here are some pics..please excuse the crumby cue
