I enjoy all the posts on here but...

I really enjoy coming on here & reading all the posts about pool along with the back & forth between everyone. It just seems like there's lots of name calling, insulting, & rudeness going on as well, is it always like this? I love debating & discussing as much as the next person but it can be done without all the animosity; people are always going to disagree but it is possible to get that across without the arguing.

Not trying to change anyone, merely asking a question. I'm not here to argue with anyone. It's the differences in people that I appreciate, I am just trying to understand why some people have to get so nasty with others here is all. Thank you for your comment though. :)

I suggest you get used to how folks are rather than trying to change them to suit your style.

Roberta,

Some people in this forum are just plain jerks. You know the type, arguing if it's wet, right after the rain.

Anyhoo, there are also many posters here, that are very informative. So, you have to take the good with the bad.

The trick is to ignore all the rudeness of many, and focus on the goodness of the few.

I so wish there was a way to search for new posts without including NPR. That would go a long way to making this a better place to be. What a cesspool of incivility.

The short answer is "yes, its always like this."

Sad to report. Sadder still to sift through it all. Cuz there is a lot of great content here, once you dig thru the crap.

Being behind a computer screen compels people to write things that they would not say to people face to face.

Again, its sad, but its the way it is.

You all make very good points. I guess some people just like arguing & I don't mind it so much when it's just a debate type argument. My dislike is when it turns nasty as it started to when I first posted on a thread & got jumped on for stating my opinion & asking questions. The people who did it were very quick to apologize however when they realized I wasn't being rude about any of it. The apologies were greatly appreciated as I try to be very respectful to people & type as if I'm actually having a face to face conversation; I try my best to not say anything online that I wouldn't to someone in person which is why I use my real name on here.

Thanks for everyone's input, I guess I was just musing after reading some of the threads on here & seeing in what direction they tend to go.

Oh, there have been some epic battles here, even in my short 3 years visiting the forum.

The Great Aiming Wars have seemed to cooled somewhat, compared to the full out battles that used to occur. It was difficult to keep up, the threads advanced so quickly...

I'sure that I'm leaving out other epic battles. A little bit of it is amusing, to a degree, but when its non-stop, and it involves posters who otherwise make great contributions to the forum, it can get discouraging.

Roberta, you seem like a genuinely nice, intelligent person and I enjoy your contributions. :) I've been a member here a bit longer than you. In my experience, the names change here and there, but , there's always been a fair share of folk that have stirred the pot over the years.

I agree many things could be handled more adult-like by some. But, it's not going to happen. Some people just seem wired to pick battles and not let sh1t go.

Yep, just way you said. Many on here are so tough on their computer while they sit in the spare bedroom at their momma's house.

you will find that its the same all over the internet, not just here, and not just about pool.

yeah, its pretty annoying but you'll learn to ignore it.

as justaburger has pointed out, many people type things that they wouldnt say in person...which is definitely true.

but the irony is, or perhaps poetic justice is a better term; these same rude and tactless people eventually go back to the real world, and find that their mouth has made them some real enemies.

karma is a brotch

Thanks, I try to be. Don't get me wrong, I can be just as defensive about things & people as the next person but I TRY (not yelling, merely emphasizing) not to be rude or mean about it.

Some of these threads do make for good enjoyment though.

A lot of it depends on if you used CTE to vote for Obama for more Chinese Cases. You may not understand that yet but you will one day.

Oh hell yes. Don't forget that it also depends on whether you used kamuii chalk, have ever played APA or can AIM Perfectly or not....

I've been told that there are forums where it's not usually like this, where the mods keep a tight rein on rudeness, namecalling, etc.

I've spent time on a couple of other forums and so far they all seem about the same.

It's probably not realistic to expect the rude people to have a change of heart and start acting civilized, it will probably take some gentle nudging from the forum police. If necessary, nudge 'em right out the door.
