Breaking Super Glue Seal on Three Piece Slate

I searched the section, but couldn't find any info...

I used super glue and index cards to join the slate together on a GCIII. It worked better than well!!! The slate holds together so well that all three pieces lift together when one end is lifted (e.g. one-piece slate)...The slate pieces on the GCIII have three dowels that line the pieces up to be joined, so those are in the seam as well...

So...how the heck can someone "break" the now super-duper-glued joint in order to disassemble???

Thanks for any help!!!

Score glue joint if possible with a utility knife and then insert a sturdy flat head screwdriver in-between the slates/backer boards on the edge of the slates where they butt together and pry them apart. You can also weaken the glue with a torch or heat gun.

Perfect...Thanks Jack!!! I guess I'll put away the sledge hammer now! :p

I just want to post for you or anyone else reading this...it's a really bad idea to lift from the end slate to try to separate the pieces. ESPECIALLY when the slate is pinned like yours, you'll most likely blow out the slate around the pins. You definitely need to score or dissolve the glue to separated the slate in a horizontal direction to avoid doing major damage to the slate.

Excellent bit of advice! I didn't see your post until after we had separated the slate...however we did use the scoring method then used a standard screwdriver(s) (one on each side) to pry the slate apart horizontally. It worked very well...better than I was expecting. I think the key was having two people prying on both edges of the slate at the same time.

Thanks again to everyone contributing on this one!

Is it necessary to glue pinned/doweled slate or are the pins enough to keep the seam filler (bondo) from popping?
