I just heard Cole Dickson has been hospitalized with liver cancer. That's one of the really bad ones. Cole is a fighter, as any of his opponents will tell you. Let's hope he can win this fight.

Cole, if you read this I forgive you for the spanking you put on me in Houston...NOW GET OUT OF THAT BED AND GIVE ME NINE TO EIGHT.

Tell Cole I first saw em in Carbondale IL with David Sizemore, probably 1968 as a young college student. We ran into ea other at our local pool room and I think he spotted me the 7-8, which he shoulda won, but this table was in a college town bar with a 9 footer and every rail had a different speed, he quit, table was too much of a gimmick, small score may $80 but hey, going to college in the 60's it was close to the rent money at that time. And we both chatted at the Bike Club I think 95 at the world artistic pool tournamanent and he was working the card tables in reverse so to speak, but we chatted and I enjoyed our time. I had to go thru em to win the 89 hubler cup in Palm Springs and he was my toughest match, having already beat Archer/Carter and many others to get to him.

Back when I thought I could play--good players ranked my style of play as they thought of Cole Dickson's game--Boom Boom even told me that years ago--I Wanted to play when ever we got the oppertunity to meet,and that came in Ronoake Va at the One Pocket tourny Cole attended--I was watching this tall Gent FIRE backward cut banks the length of the table at the SPEED OF LIGHT-(AND NOT MISSIN ANY)-and i sorta lost my---well we didn't get a game up and it was for the lack of me trying--lets put it thata way--Good Luck to you SIR--I still hear those balls slamming into those pockets to this day
 
Christine; Cole and I crossed paths many times in my travels West, He put me on a couple of scores. We hung around Denver together in the early 70's. Maybe the BEST ball pocketing skills I had ever seen, no fear just fire at the hole!

Listen buddy, you've overcome alot of s**t in your life, this is just one more hurdle! Hang in there, I'll give a nod to the MAN upstairs to stake you, this one last time!

Please tell Cole Greg and Jackie Cantrall wish him the best and get well soon. If he doesn't remember us we are the people that gave him and Vince a ride from Kelso back to Tacoma. He also stayed with us in Chico, CA. We are in Tri-cities WA now and would like nothing better than to have him stop and see us again.
P.S. I am still playing with the cue I bought from him in Lynnwood back in the 80's.

This is mark Griffin - from Anchorage Billiard Palace and the BCAPL nationals in Vegas.

I am sorry to hear about your dad.

I had heard about Cole Dickson for years - and first saw him at one of Terry Stoniers events in Sacramento in early 1970's. ( it was held at a hotel that year). He did not do great in the tournament but got to watch him gamble a little.

Forward about 20 years to LA Open of 1992 or so - we were the major sponsor - and dead out of stroke you could see how well Cole moved. Those piercing eyes would just unflinchingly shoot the balls into the pocket. Very impressive!

Actually met and chatted with him a little in Reno (where you now live?) at Grady Mathews one pocket in January of 1993. cole didn't play but Grady, Cornbread, and a couple of us attacked the craps table.

Cole is an absolute legend in pool. I wish him the best. We will be Reno for US Bar Table at Grand Sierra starting Feb 25, 2013.

If you can, stop by and say hi. Would love to see you.

Now I remember. We were with George Fels, Jimmy Mataya and Larry Schwartz and we watched the Cubs game from the rooftop seats. Great time.

Thank you so much for the words about my dad, I love hearing stories, I was never able to see him at his prime, mother always tried to keep me away from the lifestyle :rolleyes: Thank you for letting Sue and Bev know as well, it was nice hearing from them. I will for sure stop and say hello when you are here in Reno, I look forward to it and hopefully I'll be able to enter my dad in the tournament as well, I'm praying for a full recovery. :)

I'll tell you something about your dad, he could come up with some one liners that would have you almost laying on the floor laughing until your sides would hurt...out of the blue, when you'd least expect it. I got such a kick out of him talking about Linda Carter when we were at the Montana State 9ball championship back in I think 1989...it almost killed me.

He's taller than me--but when I seen them balls flying that fast into the middle of the pockets and slamming home with the thuds they were making
I thought he was taller than the 9 foot table he was standing over---and it was my fault for my lack of trying to make a game--Hope the best for you Cole--medicene has come along way in the last few years--I pray the best for you and yours

Someone once watching Cole play, I don't remember where at the time...."Cole, why don't you try and play better position on your shots?"...to which Cole responded, "What do I need to play position for...I don't miss no how!"...LOL
 
Hi Christine, tell your Dad hi from Toupee Jay. We went round and round more than a few times and I'm still trying to get even! :smile:

Our last little trip together, he broke out the good stuff and we got very mellow. He steered me to a great card game but I was in no shape to win. ;)

He and Keith were two of a kind, American Originals!
 
Cole Dickson, he had more heart than anyone I ever new?
