Overview:
Each year a friend gifts me with the ACCU-STATS Derby stream, so naturally it is incumbent upon me to share my observations with the wonderful, wacky world of pool aficionados.
I imagine that my musings will be in such universal demand that I would be remiss not to simulcast them on AZ and OnePocket.Org.
You’re welcome.
So far as I can tell, thanks to CMB and Up, in addition to the marvelous ACCU-STATS coverage, side action is captured by http://poolactiontv.com (Bigtruck) and http://www.insidepool.tv/.
If there are additional streaming organizations, I’d appreciate knowing about them.
Voices:
Commentators and announcers provide such a marvelous component to the presentations.
Example? Danny D! I love his dripping-with-contempt tone of voice -- ‘I don’t like that shot, oh, I don’t like that at all.’ Then … Wham! Bam! Center-cut!
It’s interesting to note how the Hall-of-Fame announcers have a warmer tone with sharing the booth with each other. Warmer than when co-hosting with mere employees.
Acting as an intermittent emcee, Pat Fleming’s tone is amiable, companionable, engaging. Sort of like your favorite uncle. (Not that uncle who tries to slip his hand under your skirt, no, not that uncle! Not that I have one like that, but I’ve heard tales.)
Visuals.
Streaming keeps on improving. It’s light years ahead of when I first started watching pool just a few years ago.
That said … could the players present just a little better? At least on the TV table? Scruffy jeans, tattered tennies, an occasional plumber’s crack -- ew.
And, could we please lose the gum? (One hopes it is gum, not a chaw, not khat!)
A solid colored carpet would be an improvement over that busy pattern. Allah is in the details.
Miscellany.
It’s fun to learn new things … ‘a double bank goes more easily on a new cloth.’ (Because, if I understood the explanation, the first bank comes up short.)
I wish one could see who is in the chat room before committing one’s entrance.
While I’m looking forward to the one-pocket matches, I’m finding that banks is also fascinating.
My oh my, who is that Niels Feijen? (I inquire not because of any recent changes to my personal life ((grrr!)), but out of innocent admiration of his pool stroke. I did see him run 5-and-out in banks last night.) Oh, yawn, (indicating casualness) is he married?
Reportage is my life,
Sunny
