Should I make a pool guide for bar players?

Guys I've had this idea for some time. I'm not sure if I'll have enough time and ideas, but if one day I get some crazy inspiration, I'd like to know if people here would find it useful. I know there are many bar players here, and since I joined, I kinda felt bar pool is somewhat underestimated and underrated on this forum comparing to pool hall matches and larger tournaments. I've always considered bar pool a very speacial and unique way of playing which deserves its own forum or at least a seperate section, but many members didn't agree with me. So I thought this would be a great way to both help and promote bar play. I'm not a great pool expert so I doubt most of the things I could teach would be useful to pool hall players, especially if they only play by BCA rules. However, if you want to learn a good basis to do well in bars with some bar rulesets and also APA rules, I could help with teaching you most of the stuff you need to know. We could work on the very basics of the game, or, if necessary, I could also give you some advice for correcting your playing style and tactics in order to make you a better player. Anyway, if I find enough time in the future, I'd enjoy spreading "bar wisdom" here on AZB, so please tell me if you're interested to hear some lessons and debates

Sure hope this isn't the dreaded "manifesto" again.

Anyway, appreciate the enthusiasm but no, since you inquired, I'm not interested. But thanks for asking.

I consider myself a bar player. I play in a bar league. I practice on barboxes. But, I don't need advice or help. I don't see how "bar advice" would be any different than regular "pool advice". A rule set won't change what happens in a bar and neither will advice.

Not seeing the difference between "Bar" advice and regular pool advice.

Don't drink so much that the balls are blurry. /end book.

There are no set "bar" rules for pool, therefore anything put together is a bunch of random crap that will change in every third place you visit. People say they heard of a rule that you have to hit a red ball first because you are playing on a Tuesday facing North in a state that starts with "P", that rule was told to them by their grandfather who learned it from a hooker in Germany during WWII while they were playing snooker one handed for barrels of beer.

That's about the extent, quality and validity of any "official rule set" for bar players.

I'm not sure who you are and if you don't know that much about pool dont write a book.

If you do in fact know a lot (and don't just think you do) I would agree that there are some differences strategy-wise on a barbox.

These differences are to the effect of less deflection (smaller size table), more clusters (smaller size table), sometimes needing to be more precise with your leaves (due to the smaller size table), the need to maybe break with less speed (due to the smaller table size).

I'm not sure you could make a book about the fact that the table is a smaller size.

I am not trying to discourage you and I am no one to tell someone what to do. But trying to consolidate 1 governing set of bar rules is, to me, utterly pointless. It would be like a pro baseball player trying to tell all the kids in the country that they have to play playground/sandlot baseball a certain way. It just wont take hold.

Just curious as to who you are and what your qualifications may be. The only reason I ask is that most people would prefer to know that they are getting advice from someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

bar rules? Many bars have their own rules. Depends on the players and their knowledge of the game itself. Not much else to learn except how to play the drift just right :)

I wonder if we are going to hear about the RAM shot again?

Maybe I missed something... but what is an RAM shot?

OK I kinda get what you're trying to say, but I never said there was an "official" bar rule set in the first place. If I do this, I'll probably do it for APA rules or something similar.

I'm not sure who you are and if you don't know that much about pool dont write a book.

Yeah I don't know much about advanced pool technique, but strategy-wise, I think I could write such a guide. It probably won't be a book, more like a shorter manual.

I'm not going to consolidate any governing sets. Maybe I'll write it for one set of rules and whoever wants to use it will be free to do so.

Just curious as to who you are and what your qualifications may be. The only reason I ask is that most people would prefer to know that they are getting advice from someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

I'm just a bar player with several years of experience. I have no formal qualifications, but I've seen and experienced a lot of things and I'd like to share some advice and information if people are interested.

Why don't you give us an example of what you are wanting to do. Then you can get a feel for what the reaction of the public will be.
How about describing to me the different breaks that you would utilize in a game of 8 ball and why.

Frankly, the casual drunk banger would have little interest. And as for the serious players like the members here, the information is either already understood or already available from known and respected sources. The differences between bar box and big track pool, as well as the nuances of playing on the small track, have been discussed here many, many, many times - and then discussed some more.

If it's something you really want to do then go right ahead. But if you're asking for an honest opinion about whether a significant number of people would want to read something like this, especially from someone with no credentials, my opinion is no.

What do you mean "should"? Seems to me you already have....

I am re-writing all of the rules of pool, and had planned to dedicate an entire chapter to bar pool.
However, if you want to make up a guide strictly for bar pool players I think it's a great idea.

There is a book titled "The 8 Ball Bible" by R Givens I haven't read it but one of the comments said it dealt a lot with the "heavy" cue ball.
You might read that to see what can be added.

I have the 8-Ball Bible, and it deals specifically with playing on a bar box
