Eligibility Expansion to the BCAPL Nationals Senior Divisions Announced

CueSports International, Henderson, Nevada (March 3, 2013) – The BCAPL (BCA Pool League) National Championships will be held July 17-27, 2013 for the first time at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. The move allowed the producer, CueSports International (CSI), to expand the overall group of events due to the addition of approximately one third more convention space than ever available before, but CSI is also able to expand some divisions. CSI announces that the BCAPL Men’s Senior Singles, Men’s Super Senior Singles and Women’s Senior Singles will include the following eligibility changes:

MEN’S SENIOR SINGLES
A player that is senior age (55 years of age prior to the start date of an event) and also ranked as an Advanced player may participate in the Senior division but must spot an Open level player one game (6-5). Players that are senior age and rated as a Master or Grand Master are not eligible to participate in the senior’s division. They must play in their appropriately rated division.

MEN’S SUPER SENIOR SINGLES
Men that turn 65 years of age prior to the tournament start date are eligible to participate in the Super Senior division. Regardless of a players rating, if they are of Super Senior age they are eligible to participate. There is no handicap involved regardless of rating.

WOMEN’S SENIOR SINGLES
A player that is senior age (50 years of age prior to the start date of an event) and also ranked as an Advanced player may participate in the senior division but must spot an Open level player one game (5-4). Women that are senior age and rated as a Master or Grand Master are not eligible to participate in the senior division. They must play in their appropriately rated division.

THERE IS NO WOMEN’S SUPER SENIOR DIVISION. Women that turn 60 years of age prior to the tournament start date are eligible to participate in the Women’s Senior division regardless of player rating.

As in the past, any senior age player may choose to play in the Open division if they are not rated as an Advanced, Master or Grand Master.

I sent my money in to play in the Super Seniors division in February, now they spring this on us. We will have to play with the grandmasters and pros. I thought this was an amateur event!

Papa,

Do you know any grand master or pro players over 65? Maybe Mike Massey? Bob Vanover? I'm playing in the Super Seniors. Doubt if anyone fears me and I'm only 68!

Understand your frustration. I'm sure MG and Bill Stock spent a serious amount of time discussing this change before announcing it. Don't think anyone complained about Dave Dattilo last year. He plays pretty sporty for an old fart like us!

I played with Bob Vanover on the OB Cues team for a few years. Bob's health is not up to par so his game is a little off, but he is 79 or 80 now. I was wondering why they lifted the rating on 65+ and not the other divisions.

Go ahead and play

Charlie,

As Cardiac Kid said, I doubt there will be very many Grand Master or Pros playing in that division. Probably not going to be a big change in who would have signed up anyway

This may be true, but my question is why? If your doing this in the super seniors why not do it in all divisions. Do they think that the seniors 65+ don't deserve the same respect as others divisions.

Yep, Charlie Shootman will be there. My BCA teammate is Charlie's nephew. He says uncle Charlie still shoots the lights out.

The bar box is the great equalizer. Truthfully, I fear no one on the box using BCAPL/VNEA/ACS rules. Only when you allow winner breaks is there a problem. Let the best players break and run out matches is no fun for anyone but the winning player.

I'm sidestepping the BCAPL Masters this year to play in the Super Seniors. I've seen enough of those twenty year old's (or younger  ). Let them bang heads. If people worry about this sixty eight year old, I'm pleased!
