Pay it Forward

Cueball 1950 had a thread about a cue he was giving to a down and out person.

It got me thinking about why not start one here as a sticky possibly for stuff we no longer use or need. This is not for people to pick up for resale, but something a person can truly use.

If this sound viable I have a Fury cue I would start the deal with, but only if other are willing to participate!!

Let me know should we do something like this, but in order to claim a posted item you must post something up for the taking, by another poster!!

I have a $40 hard case to throw in. As long as the logistics of exchanging it for something else are simple, sounds like a good idea.

I have a cue from a custom maker (don't want to say who) that I really don't like. Two shafts, the 12.5mm is slight warped, the 13mm is straight but the shaft does not line-up perfectly with the joint. Not sure how this is going to work, but I'd be willing to throw it in.

here is how it works

we now have 2 cues and a case listed

someone needs a cue (and become a taker) they post a claim and pm the owner (giver) that they can use it, and arrange shipping, in turn the taker must replace the cue with something of value possibly to someone else,in a new post within the same thread

taker is responsible for shipping of the item he wants

this has been a 2 year post on a golf site I frequent, it is constantly being used

I think it is a wonderful idea guys. What I have found is that these people come across our path naturally almost every day. From time to time, we let others know what is going on and they also chip in. Like someone we know has an accident or just has a need that we can help with. Once you let something go, it is out of your hands. What happens later really doesn't matter, what you did and why is all that counts. Don't let fear enter into the picture. You will be greatly rewarded. I guarentee it!!!!

I like the idea - sort of like a Craig's List for billiards. What I don't understand is that if someone is truly down and out and needs a cue and/or case, then how are they supposed to be able to reciprocate in kind? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

What if they needed a cue AND a case, then they would have to come up with TWO items to pay it back.

I could see if I knew of someone that needed something, then I saw it on this thread and then put up something of my own up. But then why wouldn't I just give that other person something of my own in the first place...or buy something else for them?

What am I not seeing here?

Perhaps when they have more stable footing, they can pay it forward. I suppose that would mean it's on an honor system.

I have a new 3x6 hard case i will donate. I'm not sure how this is going to work so just let me know what i need to do. I just had back surg 4 weeks ago and also have a lot of bill coming in also but i am a beleaver if you help others in need it will come back to you someday. Thanks, Doug

A Gift

A gift should have no strings attached. I am sure that a greatful reciepient would probably return the favor sometime in their life when they are able to do so.. This kind of stuff changes lives. Fear must not enter the picture.

Yes, I understand the concept of paying forward, and good deeds, but from this post, I understand that the taker must replace it with something of value before they take it.

I have nothing to contribute at present, as I already gave my starter cue & case away, but think this Pay Forward thing is a great concept!
In fact, worthy of its own Forum here on the board; then you just post what you have to give away, 1 item = 1 thread. Someone wants it, they PM you or respond to the thread. Perhaps Mr. Wilson could consider that? It is like the WTB/FS one, but free? :)

concept

The concept is for those of us on the board to find something we, or someone we know, may need. By having the taker replace what he takes with something else keeps it going. If not replaced the topic dies.

Now we have several items listed that are available. If someone sees something that they wish to receive. post here and contact the owner for arrangements.

The item does not have to be of equal or greater value. It may be for example that I myself or I know someone that needs a case. I check the list from this topic and chose the one I prefer. After making the arrangements I post a video I have available for someone else. And so on and so on.

It is a simple concept, but the items repalcement maintains the thread to keep going and going!!

Thanks,
Joe

While I have nothing to give that is billiards related, I do think its a good idea. Have seen some people on here and other boards that already do this, don't know if the people they give stuff to ever return the favor. Doesn't really matter if they do or not.

Now if someone needs a fishing rod or a reel that I could do. Usually give away the ones I no longer use now, and its fun hearing about the catches.

My son has been wanting to get into playing with me so I would love to grab this cue for him if it is still available.

I'll throw in a 2x4 case for the taking.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I already gave away my old starter cue and case to a friend. It's nice to know that the stuff I am giving away will go to a good person.

My cue has been claimed by dareads son. I hope he gets many years of enjoyment out of it.

Hey Don, I'm just paying forward from that amazing supper and evening of one-pocket you did for me while I was TDY to DC. I hope all is well with you and your wife.

I just wanted to bring this btt. Is this not an idea most are interested in?

Jim

Jim, I don't think people are not interested. Some people are afraid someone will take advantage of the system. That is what I was talking about when I mentioned No Fear. I think it is a pretty good idea. I was looking thru some older pictures of cues I have had in the past and I know 4 or 5 of them were given away here on the board. Some with delayed payment and some for free. I have never been burned here. That is a fact. We have some gret people here on AZB. You are one of them. I have the 18 ball on display that you gave me. Most people look at it and wonder how you get an 18 ball in the rack.
Thanks, Purdman
