Cue drowned (almost) courtesy of USPS!

Hi all,

Just wanted to share with you a near miss experience I had on a cue sent to me. Cue was sent on the 18th and delivered to me on the 20th, so in two days transit time it went from a normal USPS triangle box to what you see in the pics.

Luckily, the cue gods were with me and the cue was not damaged. The sender wrapped the cue very well in bubble wrap, and no water made it to the wood.

However this could easily have not been the case, so pack those cues well!

Jeff

PS: the cue sent was a custom Wes Hunter sneaky pete if anyone cares to know.

That is why I double wrap cues with bubble wrap and close up the ends. Very happy for you everything was alright. This should be a lesson learned to everyone to package things right and you won't have the headaches. At least as many anyway.

piece of 3" PVC pipe 32-34" long from home depot....well worth the extra few dollars then put it in a USPS box.

This stuff gives me nightmares, especially living in the mountains.
The mailman (person) doesn't like to drive or walk down the 150 ft. driveway, which is fairly steep.
I don't blames her, she's only about 4'2" tall.

Just wait for my video of the upgraded USPS exterior. I will show how bubble wrap is really supposed to be protected.

did they give any explanation on what happened to it? or is there any thing that you know of that may have caused that?

Well you COULD do a video on how to properly pack cues for shipment. Somehow I would think that it would have the cues packed snugly with lots of padding.

That would be something useful to the community.

Wow....and you didn't open the package infront of your postman? I'd do that as opposed to taking the risk. Glad to hear everything turned out ok.

Exactly.............. why send it any other way?????

I buy a 4 ft piece and cut it with a hand saw. I also get 2 pipe caps and just push them on the ends of the pipe and duct tape them..........

no worries

I do this same thing!

and Jman, I would pass out when that package arrived. I would be Fred Sanford "Having The Big One," -Grabbing chest, stumbling around a little. "I'm coming to join you, Elizabeth!'

After receiving some damaged boxes from USPS with valuable cues inside I also use PVC pipe to protect any cues I ship. I have some pictures of damaged cues that will make you sick and from my experience USPS is the worst in my area. The people here could care less whether you get your package or not and if it's damaged they don't seem to give it a second thought. You end up having to deal with filing a claim and going through all the red tape hoping you get something in return for your damaged item if you had insurance. Pack your cues the safest way you can and cross your fingers. The PVC pipe and bubble wrap is the best way i've come up with.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I'm hoping that by seeing these pics that if at least one cue is saved in the future I will have done my job :)

Whenever I ship a cue personally I either ship it in my 'shipping case' which is a Kopy Kat by GTF with the JB interior. Or if I have it going one way only I will usually use a heavy cardboard inner shipper tube or a PVC pipe, bubble wrap the heck out of it, then put all of that into a triangle shipping tube. As an extra precaution, I always put the shipping label on the inner tube, as well as the outer triangle tube. 'Just in case' they inner tube was to get separated from the triangle in shipping.

Someone had also asked why I didn't open it up in front of the mailman. Well, luckily I have probably the worlds best mailman. Matter of fact, this cue was going to my work address on Saturday, and our offices are closed on Saturday. He called me Saturday afternoon to let me know I had a package and it looked pretty rough, so I was able to meet him at the post office and pick it up. He knows I ship cues and receive cues all the time, so he told me to let him know ASAP if I got home and saw there were any problems. Again, luckily in this case there were none.

So again, save those cues! wrap them well!
