After coming in 3rd in the nationals qualifier, my son beat the kid that defeated him a few weeks ago twice, once to win the winners side matches to win the hotseat and again in the finals. Alex is the 2013 Jr MA state champ.

Congratulations! :clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

Congratulations Alex! And, dad, you really have something to be proud of there!:clapping::clapping:

That's fantastic....

...and don't be too bashful to give us lots of details about BnRs, tough shots, etc.

Any video?

Thanks everyone, he had been working at his game and really loves to be at the tables.

In the finals, when he was up 2-1, the other boy missed the 8 but left him hooked behind the 9. Alex made the table-length 17 foot kick to sink the 8 and get great position on the 9 to make it 3-1 which was probably the key shot and game in his match.

His next goal is to do better at the Nationals than he did last year (which was only one win), and the goal after that is to be on the Mosconi Cup team  Wish we had more chances to play, he's done this well just playing two times a week for the most part.

No video :(

It was pretty dark and would not have come out good with my cell phone. Next time we do this, or maybe for his Jr League finals if they do one, I'll talk to the person running the league if we can setup a streaming table.

I don't think anyone had a break and run in his age group (14 and under), but he did have some 5 and 6 ball runs. Probably the toughest shot that was key was a table-length kick he made on the 8 when the boy he was playing missed the 8 but left him hooked behind the 9. He made the kick and then the 9 to go up 3-1 in the finals. He won 5-2.

There was another good shot I remember, he ended up on close to the 8 which was about a diamond away from a corner pocket in each direction, with the cueball near the rail a few inches up from that, had an angle to scratch if he just shot it. He jacked up a bit, drew the cueball into the rail, and had the spin on it to go to the short rail and back out to middle of the table for a shot on the 9 in the side. Great use of spin to avoid a scratch and get position.

That's awesome.
And he's inspired me to come up with a special award for Jr. State champs...
I'll have to look into that for the future.

I think we're gonna need some Jr tar matches soon

Congratulations Alex.

Oh, you too Dad;)

...sounds like a possible rivalry developing with Alex's opponent...something to push them both.

Thanks for the good news story.

The TAR crew will be setup during the Jr Nationals at end of July in Vegas, so there will be some nice matches filmed then.

I also suggested to Justin that they use one of the players to do commentary for a bit, I think it would be great to hear how a younger player would do in that position, and seeing how it's a Jr tournament it would be a great time to get a few of the kids in the booth.

Winner!

Congratulations to Alex, and to Dad as well! Quite an achievement, especially beating someone who had beaten you previously.
Keep shooting straight : )
