The purpose for this thread is to rally support for the Billiard Education Foundation (BEF). And to help provide encouragement, I am offering to match all AZB contributions up to a total of $500 between now and July 25 (the start of the 2013 Junior Nationals tournament in Vegas).

The BEF is a great organization and a good "cause." They provide various programs for juniors in the billiards community. The BEF funds academic scholarships, produces the Junior National Championships, and sponsors juniors to attend the WPA World Junior Championships. The BEF also encourages youth to stay in school and further their education while building and maintaining a lifelong love of billiards through the “Pool In School” program. For more information, visit the BEF website.

To contribute and trigger a match from me, go to the bottom of the page at billiards.colostate.edu and click on the "contribute to programs that benefit junior players" link. If you prefer to not use PayPal, you can send a check or money order directly to the BEF instead. The address and contact info can be found here.

Again, I will match all AZB donations (up to $500) the BEF receives between now and Junior Nationals (July 25, 2013). Please post your donation amount on this thread or send me a PM or e-mail to help me monitor the current total.

FYI, the BEF is a non-profit organization and your gift will qualify as a charitable donation, which you can claim on your taxes as a deduction.

Please contribute whatever you can, even if it is only a few bucks.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and for supporting the BEF. Young pool players are the future of pool.

Best regards,
Dave

I'm in for $100 next week. I have to pay taxes this week, but next week I should be recovered. :o

I might add that I did donate last year, and it is nice to have a tax deduction. I don't get very many of 'em, so it's a win-win if I can help the youth compete in pool tournaments.

Thank you for being the first. I certainly hope you're not the last.

I'll count on your $100, giving us a current total match of of $100 of the $500 maximum.

Thank you for the generous amount to start things on a good foot.

Catch you later,
Dave

It is my pleasure. You're doing a good deed too.

BTW, nice avatar. You are quite a nice-looking young man, Dr. Dave!

Thank you. :embarrassed2:

Your dog is very cute also (I assume it's your dog).

Thanks again,
Dave

Bump for a good cause. Even if it's 5 bucks, it helps to raise the $500 needed. That means BEF will get $1,000. Dave is matching all donations.

If we can help fund Cleary at the U.S. Open, we can do this too. Every dollar counts! After all, this is the future of pool.

Exactly!

Even $5 would be very much appreciated by the BEF and the junior pool players.

The next time you're at the pool hall or bar, instead of buying that extra drink or gambling against a player you know will take your money, consider giving the amount to the BEF instead.

Thanks,
Dave

... bump again to catch people starting to come home from work who can probably spare a few dollars for a good cause.

Thanks,
Dave

I have been perusing a few social media sites recently. Facebook is quite popular with some folks, but here's one that is interesting. A girlfriend of mine raised funds for her school. SHe's a music teacher, and they needed new instruments.

Check it out: GoFundMe.com

Between AzBilliards and other sites, you just might reach that $500 quickly.

In case anyone needs to see what the BEF does and who they work with, this is the USAPL Jr League members that have gone to Winconsin to play. My son started playing in the Jr League 3 years ago. He is now the Jr 9 Ball Champion of the state thanks to the program. He's on the far right in this picture from a year ago.

... final bump, hoping some people out there will be willing to support a good cause this Fathers Day weekend.

Happy Fathers Day,
Dave

Dr. Dave, my taxes are paid, and I'm free at last. I just sent $100 on your website to the BEF.

I hope others find it in their heart to contribute. Any amount would help, even 5 bucks. Together, we could all make a difference by helping our youth get involved in billiards.

Thanks for doing this, Dr. Dave. You're a good man! :)

Wow! As soon as I sent the money, I got an immediate receipt from the BEF for my tax deduction. That is really helpful to have this for my records. I need tax deductions, and what better way to find one than to give to something I am passionate about: POOL!

JAM, thanks for keeping this bumped, as a parent with a kid who plays pool all the time and competes in tournament, it's good to see some support for what we (people that encourage kids to play pool as a sport) do.
