Prulhiere cue review - with updated pictures
I created this account specifically to write a review on Brian Prulhiere and the cue I received from him. We were in contact via email since day one and everything is clearly documented.
I have been playing for about 10 years and own two Schons, a Predator, Meucci, McDermott and two Braden customs. I feel my review is honest and fair.
I found Brian on eBay and contacted him on September 19, 2012 to make me a cue. I chose a standard 4 point for $225. He estimated 6-8 weeks. I received it on March 8, 2013. I wasn't concerned about the wait as I already have cues to play with. The problem was he made it out of the wrong wood. The workmanship on the cue was very poor and it had a wobble on the butt and the shaft. There were very bad scratches on the wood under the varnish.
I sent the cue back and we agreed on something else and he quoted me 3 weeks. I knew it would take longer so I would email him once in awhile just to follow up.
Luckily I did follow up as apparently he mailed it to me and it came back to him and instead of contacting me he proceeded to post it on eBay. I finally received the new cue on August 9, 2013. This is almost 11 months from the first day I contacted him.
First off I clearly stated I did not want silver rings...this cue has 4 of them, three on the butt and one on the shaft. I also know why the cues are so cheap, he uses thin wood veneers instead of solid wood as you can clearly see the lines where they join. I repeat WOOD VENEER!!! The finish is better than the last cue but there are still visible scratches on both the butt and shaft. There are also dings on the butt as well. You can see gaps on the "veneer" on three of the four points as well as above the silver ring on the bottom of the butt. I also asked for a break tip and ferrule, which he did not put on.
I think the worst part is the hole in the veneer on the handle about the size of a BB where you can see the piece of wood behind it.
These are not underpriced cues, they are cheap cues with cheap wood veneers to cover it up and make it look nice. Who knows what is hiding under the veneers and what it's actually made of. It looks good in a picture but not in person.
If anyone is considering purchasing one and lives in Ventura County and would like to take a look at this I would be happy to show it.
Brian is a nice guy that made me a wrong cue and tried to fix his mistake. I feel he either does not pay attention or simply does not care about his work.
I can not recommend a Prulhiere cue to anyone and would advise anyone to save their money and put it towards something else.
