Here is one of my babies. This cue is one of the very first ten cues Ernie Gutierrez built back in 1963. It's done in cursive style printing for GINACUE. I have a letter signed by Ernie himself on his letterhead authenticating this beautiful cue. It's all original and she's a keeper.
ENJOY!!!
John

That is one great collectible, John. I hope everyone here appreciates the historic significance of this cue.

Could this be a titlist conversion done by Ginacue? It looks like one to me, but I am no knowledgeable source on this.
I would guess this is how a lot of cue makers get their start?

Any comments on this Chris?

Yes, the early Gina cues with points were Titlists. My first custom cue when I was a young man was a Gina from the early 1970's which was based on a Titlist.

Interestingly enough, many of these cues from various cue-makers were early conversions -meaning they were formerly used cues that were made into a new cue. Even if the cue maker had the ability to make pronged cues, it simply was not worth the time and effort compared to buying assembled versions from Brunswick. I am not sure if Gina had new blanks or conversted existing cues.

I find it interesting that Brunswick supplied "blanks" to some makers, but they were not always available. I imagine some cue makers bought new Titlists one piece cues and converted them. For sure, the less common ebony and purpleheart Titlists were not available in "blank" form in the 1960's. Palmer and Balabushka, for example, scrounged used cues from pool rooms in the east, bought them for a couple of dollars, and re-made them into new cues.

I am going to ask Ernie if he converted old cues or if he had access to blanks and let you know what he says.
