Hey gang,

I just a listed an a super rare exotic Zylr player's cue. As stated in the auction, this cue is fully loaded and is in EXCELLENT condition-- practically brand new.

For those of you wondering, I just purchased this cue about a week ago for a friend of mine here in SLC, Utah. Some of you may know him as "China Dove". Well, long story short, his wife had twins about a month ago, which put him out of pool playing commission for a while. Now, he is trying to get back in. So, I hooked him up w/ this Z.......... And you guessed it, his wife happened upon the paper trail and threw a $hitfit. It wasn't that he spent over a grand on this cue that upset her, but the general fact that he is trying to get back into pool. It's kind of tragic as he was a hell of a player; he taught me everything I know about 9 ball and one-pocket. From what I know, back in his college days in the mid 90's, he went on a gambling trip throughout the west, and came home w/ a pretty good size bankroll.

Anyways, for anyone who can sympathize, or empathize, with his current position, will get a good discount.

Thanks.

nice looking cue but i fail to see the nice discount.

Thanks for the compliment. But, I fail to see where I said 'nice' discount.

Just kidding... I'll always give deals to AZ'ers. Isn't a Zylr under $2000 a deal?

I remember a year ago Zylr sneakies w/ one shaft were going around $900 on the bay. I would think his PJ's-- especially the fancy ones-- would be worth $400 to $500 on top of that. Plus, I don't think I've ever seen a 'fully-loaded' Zylr PJ for sale on the secondary mkt; most are either the same sneaky pete that seems to be passed around once a month, the very unpopular quick release uni-loc PJ, or one lacking in the Buckhorn collar department. It's like buying a SouthWest w/ a uni-loc pin-- I'm sure it would still play decent, but by no means possess the same feel as the 3/8-11. My point being that there is a reason that the 3/8-11 Zylr 'plain-janes' are NEVER for sale, and that Zylr has a multiple year waiting list on these same 'PJ's'. I know these cues might seem a little 'over-priced', but just imagine how good they must hit. I mean, people are willing to pay $2000 for a G.D. Ed Prewitt that are a league below Zylr's.

I'll knock off 10% off my buy-it-now price for any AZ'er.

I've never shot with either but are you sure about Prewitt's being a league below Zeiler? I find that hard to believe.

Best of luck with the sale.

Even though finances are tight right now I can't tell you how tempting this is for me...lol. If the cue were 60" I'd be hard pressed not to buy it! I'll just have to wait another 2.5 years for my 60" bocote! :( :D

Zylr cues hit harder than Prewitt cues.
Zylr cues are not cored with maple.
Zylr cues also have harder stag collars as opposed to phenolics on Prewitts.
Prewitt cues are more fancy though.

Ok, but does that make them inferior?
Nothing wrong with cored cues, trust me. Also nothing wrong with phenolics. This is why I was asking.

Thanks

Good luck with the sale Shane. I'm fairly certain there are enough Zeiler fans out there and someone is sure to pick it up.

I have a Prewitt with a solid Ivory capped joint and it is one of the best-hitting cues I have ever played with. That includes SW, Hercek, Bluegrass. The workmanship on the Prewitt cues is unbelievable.

I have not had the pleasure of hitting with a Zyler, however, but my opinion is that Prewitt cues are in the very upper eschelon of custom cues as far as hit is concerned.

Thanks for everyones' comments. Perhaps I was a tad bit out of line saying that Ed Prewitt's are a league below Z's. I was trying to make a point more than anything. Seriously, I would love to own one of Ed's cues someday. Although, I think Zylrs do hit a little better-- subjective opinion of course-- I still think Ed's cues are very elegent and well worth the $.

Thanks again, guys.

I'm sorry to hear to that; I know the feeling. I've been working very hard to raise some extra $ so that I can buy this cue from my friend. I've never hit w/ a better Zylr. I would say my only complaint about this Z is that the shafts are a little bigger than I like. I play my best w/ 12.25 - 12.5mm, wheras this one is about 13.05mm. But, I know I could adjust if I needed to. Actually, the good thing about the 13mm shafts is that I can drill full length shots on my friends 10' gold crown that I usually have some problems w/ otherwise; but, these shafts make it rather tedious to move whitey around on such a big table.

I think you made a very good decision in getting on Z's waiting list. Plus, Bocote is one awesome wood.:D

Take care,
-Shane
