it was his call to dq darren
he really had no choice in the straight pool match of darren vs orcullo
darren upon missing a combo while on a good run and close to the finish line
i think darren was at 129 darren got pissed at himself for missing and speared his cue at the balls causing a ball to leave the table and disrupting several balls
darren is one win away from winning the make it happen round robin
it took guts imho for ken to disqualify darren
much respect goes to ken to be a man and enforce the rules

Ken made right move. No reason what so ever to act like that! He had match won by big margin at guess. To bad.

Daz was probably going to lose- It was 129- 119 or so with Dennis coming in to open balls and at least one hanger. No special Kudos for Ken and no hudos period for doing what he was supposed to -especially to a guy who running away with the tourny.

Its nice to see ref's doing their job correctly. There was no reason for Darren to react like that. I would expect that kind of behavior from a child.

He didnt make a conscious decision -You have no idea what it's like being in the mind of a hothead. Ever see a cheap guy all of a sudden become a spender? A slob become a neatnick?

It's not so easy to change a hard wired brain. Im not saying people are not responsible for their actions but it's no way as easy as you think to control a reaction like that for some.

Yes, kudos to Ken. Many refs/tournament directors don't have the guts to enforce sportsmanship rules but they should. I think they should be really strict about it. There's no place in tournament pool for that type of behavior or the verbal sharking that so many players do.

Its called Maturity, Like a couple of years ago at the US Open 9ball when Efren lucked in the winning 9 ball in. He lied said that Efren didnt shake his hand , and we all saw on the video that Efren walked directly over to Darren and shook his hand...........Darren is getting to be the biggest cry baby when he doesnt win..........He makes me sick

All fine except it has nothing to do with what i said. It's called reading comprehension.

Daz never recognized a good roll he ever got-only the bad ones. Anyone who hasnt noticed that should wear shoe boxes for shoes. He is in short a hothead.

I guarantee if i knew you 6 months or anyone else, i could point out personality flaws equally as bad as that you will never change.

i agree with Mike Davis, kudos to Ken, to many times in any sport, the stars are given passes for their behavior. rules are rules for a reason. it takes fortitude to up hold the rules. not much to break them.

Well said Mike. Ken did what was needed in this incident, quickly & decisively. Pro pool is at a low point at this time so now it is more important than ever..

That is irrelevant regarding whether he should have been disqualified. It isn't a judgment call for the referee. What he did is unsportsmanlike conduct.

BUT, not being the real topic, THAT pocket has been having the habit of spitting balls out and hanging them up ! Darren seen it happen to him a few times as others have too. I call it an evil pocket !

Thanks for reminding me about that pocket. I saw more than Appleton complain or shake their head at it after a well hit ball refused to go. It's a shame having a pocket like that in such a high level player, well run tournament. I saw the mechanic, Pat, and a few others gathered around the pocket to see if there was any quick fix I guess. I guess there wasn't. Look forward to the final night tonight.

Pat is always trying new things to help lift the game up from where it has sunk to. One of his ideas is going to hit a homerun soon. Johnnyt

in the PGA.

There should've been three DQs in the Mosconi also.
 
I haven't been following this event, sounds like a good one. But what does disqualified mean in this case? Was Darren disqualified from the tournament or did he just lose this one match because of his actions?

Everybody brags about how they want ridiculously tight pockets, must be some kind of macho ego thing. Anyway... good, now deal with it. Be careful what you ask for. Regardless, he overcut the shot anyway. It happens.

I'm sure he was upset about the bonus money also. Hey,being a hot head usually doesn't end well either.

I wonder what happen if there was just one match where many people paid to watch and something like this happened early in the match. Would a director be ridiculed for stopping the match. There must be a lot of pressure on him.
We saw this many times in tennis with players like Jimmy Connors and John Mcenroe. How many times have we seen Earl go off the deep end with no consequences.
I wonder if Pat or Ed had any say in the decision. They both had a financial stake in this tournament. I know Ed wants to hold the game to a higher standard. He has a lot of respect for the game.
