How come no one has done any 90-90 reviews? Particularly interested in Ron's ability to communicate clearly and how easy it is to learn the system.
Is anyone prepared to do a review of Ron Vitello's now DVD and book combination?
I'm particularly interested in how well the information is communicated and how easy it is to become proficient.
I had sent you a PM telling you I'd post the following "review" after I watched the videos again, but I never did. Since Ron posted yesterday, and I covered much of this in my response to his post I figured I'd just share it here. It's not long and is completely unchanged from the day you originally posted asking for a review.
I hate to say this because I think the system has merit, but honestly the DVD is not very good.
I WOULD say Ron doesn't do a very good job of explaining the system, but the problem with the DVD is that Ron doesn't do ANY job of explaining the system. It comes across more as a video of him trying to prove to naysayers that the system works than it is an attempt to teach the system. I fear that had I not already been familiar with 90/90 from Cleary's video, I'd have been completely lost while watching the DVD.
So, watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8IesgEXbvU) first as an introduction. Then, the DVD will at least make some sense, but the system is never actually taught on the DVD. It's a collection of Ron shooting shots saying "this is a 90/90" and "that's a good shot." "This is xxx, good shot." There are some good diamond systems discussed on the second disc.
With all that said, I've only watched it once. I'll watch it again, and if something seems to click I'll add another post.
I purchased the 90/90 DVD and have subsequently sold it. Nowhere in the DVD was there anything close to a step by step explanation of how to set up for and execute the 90/90 system. The DVD immediately went into Ron Vitello demonstrating numerous different shots, using 90/90, and explaining which alignment and pivot were to be used. It was if there was an assumption the viewer of the DVD already understood the basics of the DVD.
The kicking portion of the DVD didn't show anything that isn't already out there in multiple places. Ron explained the first couple of kicking systems in some detail but after that, lapsed in the mode of showing it without offering much in the way of explaining the set up for that kicking system.
It didn't appear the DVD had been very well planned or scripted, it was as if it was done ad lib. If this DVD had been sold for $19.95, I would have thought ok, you get what you pay for. At $79, frankly, it's a rip off. Each person's mileage may vary and everyone is welcome to their own opinion for sure. If you don't know the basics of 90/90 before you watch the DVD, I have no idea how you're going to learn it by watching the DVD.
Thank you very much for the info nobcity I will check another systems. Pro one perhaps
So what does 90 to 90 mean? Is that edge to edge or 90% of the CB at 90% of the OB? You say pivot. Well, I've heard people describe it as a hip pivot or something similar to BHE or you make the pivot but don't move your eyes/head while pivoting to CCB. Which is it? I had another very knowledgeable pool person who is a member here describe it to me and his description varied from yours.
Dave, I understand you really like Mr. Vitello and I can understand that, he seems like a genuinely great guy. If someone wants a phone lesson, they should call him. If the DVD is so clear, please point out to me where exactly in the DVD that Ron showed in detail how to line up for the 90/90, 90 to Center and 90 to reverse 90 and then explained exactly how to pivot?
I don't really care and I'm going to quit posting about the DVD. I simply think it is wrong for people to post glorious things about a DVD simply because they think Ron Vitello is a great guy. Here's the deal. I bet you could take 25 relative beginners at pool who've never heard of 90/90, let them watch the DVD 5 times and I'll bet you none of them would be able to execute the system properly by only watching the DVD.
