Open table night at the local watering hole up the road. 7 foot Valley. After a while, I said to buddy #1 "let's try something different. Let's play some one pocket." Buddy: "Okay, I'm down."

Won something like 8-6 or 8-7. While playing, friend 2 came in, we explained what was going on. I busted him 8- or 8-2. After play was over, I pulled out my BCA rule book (yes, along with my cues and case, I had it with me in the bar). We had fudged up some of the rules, like when to spot balls and how many, but we had a lot of fun. Definitely beat playing the same old tired bar rules 8-ball. Oops, sorry, "straight 8-ball." Will definitely be including it in open table night from now on, and gonna try to introduce short race straight pool next week, too.

Cool....welcome aboard.

Try to get to a 9 footer if you can. If not, look for 'Toledo Joe' dvd on Bar box 1pkt. (Freddy the Beard website)

have fun

My 1st 10 racks or so of 1 hole felt like a root canal. I'd look at the layout and be so confused I WTF'd myself into frustration.

And then, it set in. What a game of chess it is. CB control is paramount and assists all other games.

It's about time you got into the game. I tried to socialize a couple of games with you when I first met you but you were mainly a nine ball player and didn't want anything to do with one hole. With your pool skills you could become a very good one hole player.

For me it's the only game that I can play without gambling because it's such an interesting game.

If you ever have plans to come to SoCal let me know and we can get a few games in....Frank

Great game for developing cue ball control, banks & a safety game.

let's try something different. Let's play some one pocket.

"Hey honey, I've done a load of overtime this month, got some extra cash. Why don't we do something nice? How about a holiday?"

"No, lets be sensible, lets by some more insurance. We might even get a free pen."

Well, whatever the joke is, went over my head

I will take a ball and try you some...fuggit, you got even up action, baby!

But technically if you started playing one pocket last night, you should still be playing :D

Maybe that belongs in the One Pocket Is So Slow thread.

Memorize these tracks and practice them. Your one pocket game just went up two balls. Credit to "Upscale One-Pocket" by Jack Koehler.

I think the first time I played one pocket I realized the importance of learning by watching YouTube videos of pros.

I obviously wasn't an expert, but I had a good idea of one pocket safes, shots, etc.

It's a fantastic game but I only get to play it with a few people.

one pocket is hands down the most fascinating pool game i've ever played. it did wonders for my imagination on the table. you start seeing shots you never would have before.
someone posted a picture from the "upscale one pocket" book...that book is awesome. also, if you get hooked, i really enjoyed grady matthews' dvd as well.
3 cushion is another great game to help you look at the table totally differently when you're playing other games.

Great Game

Leto.. You have just found the best game for all around pool skill developement.

I have been playing One Pocket now for about 2 years and it never gets boring. It may be boring to someone not in the game or not educated in the finer poinst of One Pocket.

Best played on a 9 footer or 10 footer if one is available.

One of the really fun things about One Pocket when you first start out is learning how suttle moves can have major impact in the game.

Sometimes you may make what may feel like a bad shot, but turns out to be a great shot afterall.

As you develope your One Pocket game and play better players just remember this one saying that is oh so true.

"You may lose the game, but don't lose the lesson".

Enjoy and let us know how your One Pocket improves.

Fries???????????

Leto..

Forgot to mention, if you eat fries (like chefjeff suggests) be sure to wipe the grease from your fingers to your shirt or pants.

Nothing worse than greasy balls..

Don

Lol.reminds me of someone I know.not only does he cover the palm of his bridge hand in white chalk, but his grip hand, too! Leaves chalk everywhere. Drives him nuts when I brush the table after his turn. Not as much as his mess drives me nuts!
