Amidst all the clamor and "discussion" regarding the handling of Souquet's forfeit, I think we are not talking enough about the fantastic level of play that just occurred at the CSI Invitational 8-Ball Championship.

Unmentioned so far in anything I have read is the fact that three players had "perfect" matches.

Bustamante -- In his match against Ko Pin-Yi, Butamante broke and ran out on all 6 of his breaks. And he ran out after Ko's 3 errors (2 misses and 1 scratch on the break).

Ko Pin-Yi -- In his match against Appleton, Ko Pin-Yi had 5 B&R's on his 6 breaks (one dry break), ran out after Appleton's 2 dry breaks, and ran out after Appleton's only 2 misses (one on Ko's dry break and one on one of Appleton's own wet break).

Van Boening -- In his semi-final match against Ko Pin-Yi, Van Boening had 6 B&R's on his 7 breaks (one dry break), ran out after Ko's 2 dry breaks, and ran out after Ko's only missed shot (on one of Ko's wet breaks).

A dry break is not counted as an error by Accu-Stats in calculating their Total Performance Average. I have not seen any TPA's posted by Accu-Stats for 8-ball matches, but, using their formula, all three of these performances were perfect 1.000's -- no miss errors, no break errors, no kick errors, no safety errors, and no position errors.

And some other performances were nearly perfect:

• Van Boening vs. Souquet -- only one error for Shane (a scratch on a break) and two errors for Ralf (one miss on a four-ball combo and one scratch on a break).

• Hohmann -- only one error against Chang (a scratch on a break).

• Ko Ping-Chung -- only one error (a miss) against Hohmann (two misses) in the first semi-final.

• Van Boening vs. Ko Ping-Chung finals -- Shane had only one error (a miss) and Ko had three (2 misses and a scratch on a break).

For anyone who likes to watch 8-Ball at the highest level, this was a remarkable opportunity:

• 54% of the games on the feature table were break-and-runs.
• The total number of missed shots in 218 games on the feature table was 56, which means about 1 missed shot for every 4 games.

Thanks, CSI, for holding this event and streaming it for us to view.

[P.S. How often do we amateurs play safe in our 8-ball matches? A lot, right? In the 218 games on the feature table, these pros played safe 8 times, or about once every 27 games.]

Awesome work as always.

But tell me again why everyone thinks the game of choice at the professional level should be 8 ball :)

Who said that, Trudeau? How about American Rotation?:)

But even with a 54% B&R percentage, this 8-Ball event was interesting to watch to see how they did it!!
