Instruction needed

I have been thinking about getting some lessons. My game is fair at best. APA 5 when I played in a league about 3 years ago. I Know of no instructors in the immediate area. I live in lenox, MA it's about 1 hour west of Springfield, Ma and 1 hour east of Albany. I was hoping maybe someone could point me in the right direction. Also in general how much do they cost? THANKS

David MacNeill is a BCA Master instructor in Southington, CT

In addition, there are 7 BCA instructors listed in your own state. Be sure to check both the "active" and "reserve" lists. Some of the "reserve" instructors are really actively teaching but don't bother to make the students turn in evaluation forms.

I be shocked if there is nothing around Albany, but you've got to ask around. Go to local poolrooms, or as local as they get and ask. I know the Joss Tour goes someplace over near Albany so there must be a room around there someplace.
I've found that you'll find the instructors that come recommended (even BCA certified) sometimes work for you and sometimes don't. If you were a rank beginner you could go to anyone, but though you're not going to set the world on fire I wouldn't consider an APA 5 a rank beginner. You might have to try a few before you find one that "fits".
What about Tim White up at Mt Snow, VT (Billiards Sanctuary)? Big expense, but I've heard some people say he was good.
If you're going to head down to the Hartford area I'd recommend finding out the next time Randy G is going to have his travelling pool school there.
Good Luck.

BTW, went to college up your general way (N. Adams), pretty country.

He just missed him! Randy was in Hartford July 14, 15, & 16! Just to mention it, there are also traveling instructors, like myself, who will come work with you privately, either in your home, or at your local poolroom.

If you are willing to take Scott up on his offer, I would be more than happy to join and defray the cost. Possibly meet half way as I am in the Boston area.

Let me know if this is something you and Scott would be interested in.

Although I can't really help you with teachers, I have something that might be good for you or anybody. Print out some blank table digrams and keep them handy with you. When you come up to a difficult shot or layout you can record them down. This way you have something specific to ask when you consult with an instructor or an advanced player.

Link to some blank layouts in PDF format:

Also, if it's handy, try videotaping yourself hitting balls once a while. You may see something interesting.

REALLY excellent idea Wei! I also carry blank table diagrams (although I think I'll now substitute yours for what I've been using...:D ).

Koop...I'm now planning a trip to NJ, NY, CT and MA, for the end of August.
I'll be in touch soon! I'll be coming to Boston for sure!

Thanks for the heads up. It is very pretty but not much goes on here in the way of pool. Seems like everybody around me is into the symphony or Theater. Guess thats what I get for living in the town thats the summer home of the Boston symphony orchestra. How long ago were you here?

Hi Scott,

Please do. I'll ask around to see if anyone else is interested.

Kind regards,
