I know people have traded around an excel format list of players with stats, but here's a simplified list, sorted first by prize money, secondly by game win percentage. I assume that game (not match) win percentage is the tie breaking factor. There's actually a couple people tied in win percentage also - so I heard that the tie breaking factor will then be break and runs. I think break and run %, not total break and runs (as some players went further into the tournament) WOW! I know for a fact many players totally forgot or missed to mark their break and runs. Scorekeeping was not 100% accurate as a lot of players were too involved in their matches mentally to do perfect scorekeeping, even as simple as it seemed. Here's the problem, the IPT said at the tournament that win percentage will be calculated to 3 decimal points. They only list 2. I don't know if people tied in money and win percentage would swap position if we could get that extra digit of data. I have a feeling it wouldn't change due to the fact that games played are discrete, not continuous. So, there's only so many racks that could have been played and if they played the same amount of racks and wound up with the same percentage, it would be the same no matter how many decimal places you go back.

Ismael Paez and Christopher Bartram tied in Money, Win Percentage and Break and Runs. What if they were 100th and 101st? What would be the tie breaker then? Jeesh! They have different match winning percentages though....the IPT is going to have to come up with some concrete methods here or at least post them sometime this year -- because players are playing for $100,000 and more here (a tour card alone is worth that). Players are going to want to know this data.

Anyway, say the IPT season were to end this moment - this would be the standing as close as I can figure. Qualifiers in bold. Winners of tour cards in blue...

If I made any errors in who's who etc..let me know.

Heh, funny to see that 13 out of the top 36 players in the tournament were not selected by the IPT to be part of the tour.

As you can see, the top 100 is littered with qualifiers. The bottom 100 has a whole lot less qualifiers mixed in.

After the next tournament, the total ranking list will expand past 200 as some of the guys who qualified for this tournament will not qualify for the next, and there will be some new guys.

Frankie Hernandez is one for example. He's qualified for the World Open in Reno, so by default, that automatically kicks out 1 of the 50 qualifiers that played in this tournament from qualifying again. Not that the 50 that made it to this one would have automatically qualified for the next one, just being technical....

Rico Diks, who did phenomenal in this tournament failed to qualify in the 1st round of the World Open Qualifiers.

That says a LOT about the qualification process. I'm sure he'll get in the World Open in Reno by making it through a future qualifier. Makes you wonder though.....This format is brutal.

I can't wait till we get all the numbers and lists after the next tournament and the next one after that. We'll start to get a pattern going as then no player will be able to blame having a bad tourny....

Also, hypothetically...if this were the end of the season - more than 50 card holders would lose there card, an additional 32 would lose it for a total of 82 card holders GONE. Wow. I doubt it will be that many as the card holders get an extra 2 tournaments to win money. So they'll catch up for sure. I also think aside from having the extra 2 tournaments to gain with, there's a good dozen that will advance much further and have a better tournament than this one.

If my calculations are right, pretty much everyone with $30,000 and up is guaranteed in for 2007. Those who are qualifiers with $17,000 will most likely need to get in the World Open and might get away with the 1st round $5,000 to make it $22,000 - or move to 2nd round and guarantee a spot. I say this because there's a good chunk of people on this list that I do not see ever advancing a single round in any of the tournaments unless God shines his light down on them and they get some super easy groups in the players only tournaments. Hard to say. I could be totally off. I'm very curious and have been speculating what will be the prize money winning amount that will form the top 100 cut off? It's got to be around $20k-$30k...

Those who got $10,000 in this one are going to need to kick some butt in the next one. Qualifiers who made less $10,000 or less are going to have to produce good results in the next tournament -- otherwise they won't make the tour and will have to try and do a regional qualifier to play in the massive 250 player 2007 tour card qualifier where 50 will win cards. Tour card holders have more margin of error being allowed to play all tournaments, but cannot afford too many round one knock-outs because they might find themselves outside.

Crazy.

It's amazing how many "underdogs" are in the top 50 of the list. As for Rico Dics I get the feeling we will be seeing him in the World Open, he simply plays to good to not qualify for it.

The fine print says that the taller of the two would advance...

Poor Ismael. :p Of course, with all the Filipinos dominating the last places, it may need to go to the shortest player!

Well, I doubt that there would be any ties in so many categories after all the tournaments. These type of ties are more common after one tournament, but not after 4. It is mathematically possible for there to be a tie of 2 players in the running for a tourcard in ALL categories after 4 tournaments, it's just highly improbable.

The International Pool Tour Official 2006 Money List Rankings will be published on Monday August 7, 2006. Money List ranking criteria are as follows: Money won, if tied then total number of matches won, if tied then game winning percentage (W%), if tied then total number of break and run-outs, and if tied then total number of eight balls made on the break. The next event is the IPT World Open, which will be seeded based on the Money List rankings.

The IPT World Open is just around the corner. This open event is the next tournament to contribute to the Money List rankings. The tournament is a 200 player tournament consisting of 150 IPT Tour Members and 50 players who can win their spots in any number of qualification tournaments being held around the world this month. Click here to learn more about how to enter and play in the World Open qualification tournaments. Don't miss this opportunity to get on the Money List and fight for a 2007 Tour Card - click here to learn why! Also, check out the latest action in the qualification tournaments by visiting the IPT's on-line coverage of these events at www.internationalpooltour.com.

BINGO! I'm glad they'll put out a list, easier for me and my curiosity.

Bola, thanks for that was really suprised that the website doesnt have a money list since it seems all the data is stored in a DB so would have been fairly simple task.

I do think you are a little over on what it will take to win a tour card though. The card holders are only guaranteed 13k and if you look at the two closed events I think the low end proze money only increas a couple of k per round. So even if a few of the poorer players make it through a group stage in BOTHclosed events I think they'll only be on 17k which could make things pretty close given the number of qualifiers on 17k already. It alldepends on how many of the same players qualify for the next one though, if any of the guys on 17k qualify it would put them 22k and I'm pretty sure this will be enough for a card. A few guys on 17k might squeeze in, and the guys on 10k will probably make it if they get through 2-3 rounds and qualify of course.

I bet the qualifiers who won 30k sure feel good as they have pretty much won 130k!

EDIT
Just remembered, Boyes won 17k I think but he has already qualified for the world open which puts him 22k, prob enough but chances are he'll make it through a few rounds anyway unless he ahs a crazy draw.

The only ties left, even with the criteria listed by Deno, are the players way at the bottom who never ran a rack, never won a match, never made an 8 on the break, and who've won exactly the same percentage of games. Now, ties are most likely at the bottom due to the lower number of matches/games thus making ties more likely, but I don't think that will last as tournaments get added. And even if there are still ties, it won't be too significant as their position isn't in contention for a tour card. It might come into play for deciding who gets an auto-entry into the tour card qualifier....

Deno's tiebreaker criteria changes the rankings a bit. If you notice, Mr. Z went from 96th to 101st! I think it makes sense to value matches won over win percentage of games for the standings list. Wouldn't be fair for a player to be under another player because that other player's win percentage is higher, but has won less matches. Matches are more important than games.

Should be interesting. For me, this stuff is a lot more fun than the old, redundant, same old world of pool where there's a tourny, a winner...and that's that. zzzzzz

I like that second list better (sorted by match wins then game wins) cause I climbed up two places :p

It's looking like there could be 15 to 20 qualifiers make it into the top 100 money list by my guestimation...somewhere around the 20-22k mark.

That means of the original 150, around 65 or 70 may be eliminated and have to play in the big qualifier in December. Probably only 1/2 to 2/3 of them will participate I guess, so the total number in that event should still be around 250....with 50 spots up for grabs.

Well, maybe, but if one player loses five matches in his group, all 7-8 and another player wins fives matches in the same group, all 8-7, I'd say those players are close to the same speed. Total games are better at levelling out statistical bumps like that because there are more games than matches, and anytime you have more of something, you can find it's average more accurately than if you have just a few samples.

Hope you can read this, it's split into 2 sections - Top 100, Bottom 100:

Player Name Match Total Match Won Match Lost Match Win % Games Total Games Won Games Lost Games Win % B&R B&R% * B&R% + 8 on B Tourn. Place Prize Money M/F
...
Lordy. I won't name names but two games won in 4 matches?!? I didn't notice anyone I'd care to match up with in the top 100, but there are a few in the bottom 100. I suspect by next January there will be no walk-overs in any IPT tournament, especially considering how well the qualifiers did.

I agree Bob, but as the players near the 100 barrier will probably play 20+ matches, I don't think it's likely to make much difference, especially if they change the prize money format for different amounts for placings within groups. Then there should at most be a few names drawn on prize money for the 100th position.

I see what you're saying and agree, but it comes down to what you're trying to measure. I don't think the IPT wants to measure players speed from a purist point of view, instead, they want to measure tournament performance. Games won is a better indicator of determining the speed of two players during a tournament. Matches won is a better indicator of tournament performance over the course of a few tournaments- I suppose.

I think of it as the basic unit of measure. A match is the basic unit of measure. A game is a sub-unit. Games don't put up scores on the round robin sheet - matches do. So they are the minimum unit of measurement that really counts (or counts most). In a tournament, matches won is a more critical statistic, as it is the basic fundamental goal of the tournament. Games won is a match goal, matches won is a tournament/group goal.

7-8, 7-8, 7-8, 8-7, 8-7 might be statistically close to 8-7, 8-7, 8-7, 7-8, 7-8, but one guy produced match wins, the other did not. That player accomplished something, the other looked good but accomplished nothing. One player won ugly, the other lost pretty. One will advance, the other will not. So games aren't really that relevant in the scope of measuring seasonal performance.

The only reason to use game win percentage (aside from being the 3rd level tie breaker for season performance) is during a particular tournament - measuring only tournament game win percentage for the purpose of tie breaking group play. Matches are too simple of a unit to use as there would be no tie breaking method for the 1st round.

I dunno...I'm no math whiz. I could be totally wrong in the way I see it.

Did I miss an IPT email with the rankings? Wasn't that on 8/7?

Well, math definitely is not one of my favorite subjects, but here's a list on the IPT website, Corey. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but it may be: http://www.internationalpooltour.com/ipt_content/events/06_na_8ball_open/player_stats.asp

What I would like to know is why a percentage amount by player's name is different than the percentage amount by the player's name which was written on the official charts at the tournament. In other words, the percentages on the above-referenced link are different amounts than the ones written on the official charts.

Is this a different ranking system used for another purpose other than round advancement?

Thanks in advance to anyone who's able to answer my inquiry. It will be much appreciated by a math-handicapped gal like me. :p

I was looking for the official rankings that were gonna be published last Monday.

Regarding the % on the charts at the event and on the web, my Wife said the same thing (she is a math geek). They were different. According to her, the #'s at the event were accurate, however the ones on the web were not.

I actually finished 2nd in my first round group, yet the web had me as 3rd.

I'm not sure if this is the problem you are talking about or not. We noticed that the winning percentage on the round-robin charts changed to the total for the tournament. So if a winning percentage was 57.50% on Day One but it went down to 50.00% after Day Two it showed up on the Day One chart as 50.00%. They should have set it up so it showed the Day One percentage on the Day One chart instead of continually updating because it caused a lot of confusion.

Same thing in my camp. I remember the percentages written for both rounds on the "official charts" in Vegas, and the ones on the above-referenced chart are VERY DIFFERENT.

It could be, though, that the above-referenced percentages are the total amounts AFTER all the break-and-runs, games won/games lost, and other confusing-to-me math equations enter in the formula. Maybe there is something on the IPT website that explains it, but without having each player's scorecard, it'd be impossible to do sitting here at home, IMHO.

If there's a math geek who can explain it, I'm all ears -- or eyes, in the case of reading the thread! :p
