This guy made millions fall in love with Billiard Sports!

Tip your hat to Alex "Hurricane" Higgins, who made the game seem like magic and emotional theater and attracted millions of fans to the sport of snooker.

Snooker wouldn't be the game it is today without Alex Higgins.

You'll feel the passion, magic and emotion when you watch this video of his magic moments with the cue.

Thank you, Colin -- I really enjoyed that! Alex was something else; unorthodox fundamentals and he hit those balls so hard, that even if he missed, something extraordinary was going to happen.

I remember that last match he played -- it was really obvious he was suffering from the cancer that he'd been fighting, and not too long after that, he was gone. :(

Colin,

That is an awesome piece. It brought tears to my eyes.

It's really wonderful to see the Determination, the Will, the Passion. the Love, the Appreciation...& the Heart that he possessed & displayed & is evident in just that short piece.

I am going to pass it on to one that I think might benefit from seeing it.

It is ashame that more do not have what he had & seems to be lacking more so here in America now days.

Thanks for the gift.

As always, Best Wishes to Y'a,
Rick

Wow, Amazing video from a pool player that had only heard the name Alex Higgins in passing here and there.

Snooker seems alot more closer to popularity to golf.

I watched it twice and it brought a tear to my eye both times, which is not common for a pragmatist like me. Some of his classic moments are scarred into my psyche, and seeing it presented with the music, and sense of glory and then tragedy, just brings out emotions.

He had what is close to a cult following. A people's champion he was, and gifted in ways rarely seen, and vulnerable in ways we sadly see too.

Yes... When one gives it their 'all' & makes a full investment, the two sides of the passion that is love & desire can certainly be seen.

The Wide World of Sports called them, 'The Trill of Victory...and The Agony of Defeat'.

Thanks Again for the Gift,
Rick

That was a nice tribute. I have watched several others on UTube on Alex.

The last one was a short documentary. The end scenes where of him having a pint and shooting a few balls in a private club.

He was very fragile and weak and doubt that he was with us much longer after that was filmed. He could still pocket balls tho.

Colin you've always been one of my favorite posters on here, thanks for an awesome video.

Hurricane

Great video of a genius talent! His full offensive style, is what propelled Snooker to where it was. As he said " Can Snooker live without me? "
Thank you for the treat.

Isn't it sort of sad though... the number of awesome genius type talents that also suffer so?

It's as though God blesses them with their awesome talent & they can't seem to see themselves as worthy & somehow self destruct, or.... someone else says, 'well if that is how you want it for them...then they'll have to pay the price.

You can see the Love on Mr. Higgins face numerous times in just these short videos. Perhaps it is the intensity of that emotion from which such 'genius like' talent emerges.

Such intense Passion seems to be a bit of a poisoned emotion where the price to experience it's ecstasy is fraught with the pangs of sacrifice.

Or... it could be like Steve McQueen's character said in the movie, Lemans.

'Racing is living... everything else is just waiting until I can live again.'

Sorry for the rant. I've only had one cup of coffee so far.
