Tonight we hear from Barry Behrman about his player payment issues, his passion, and his recently announced decision to sell the U.S. Open and retire. What will become of this huge iconic event?

Listen tonight at 9pm CST

If you guys don't grill him like a load of cheap shrimp I will be very disappointed.

Lou Figueroa
I know, you'll get over it
but do it, damnit

I hope that Barry really does sell it (or give it away, because I doubt there will be any buyer unless he is willing to take like $1,000). I also hope that he has for sure given up on the idea of passing it along to his son, which used to be his plan, because the son also has issues paying the players in his events (including prize money the son still owes after many years). Seems that being a crook just runs deep in the Behrman DNA.

Yeah that was a little rough. Had to get the audio online from an alternate location. What a pain in the ass. Sorry guys, we're all good now:cool:

Fitting start referring to him as a "partner in crime".
.
.
Crime should've been plural.
.
.

He says business is "booming". If business is booming in a pool hall / bar of his size I would say that the word booming would represent $100k to 200k in liquor sales. Where has all the money gone..??

I actually feel sorry for the guy, obviously, he has terrific issues that he will not, or can not overcome.
It is a terrible shame that someone could not step in and salvage this event in the last 5 or 10 years.
My guess is that people tried and either Barry would not allow it or the tries didn't work as planned.
Whatever happened , it is , what it is.
I can't imagine anyone wanting to pay for a tournament that has had all the bad press attached to it , and so many financial problems, but, maybe there is someone out there that can make it a go.
I also think we still owe Barry a thank you, for all the time and money and stress that he has had with the tournament.
Without him, there would have been no tournament at all.
Things always seem to have a purpose , even if it is not apparent till much later.
Perhaps the silver lining is that Barry kept the tournament going long enough for the right time for it to work, and 20 years from now , it will be the greatest event in a year filled with big payday tournaments.{We can dream}.

It's interesting to listen to Barry ramble on. Lot's of superlatives and conjecture. He is great at over selling blue sky..

MIKE HOWERTON: "we're 4 mos past last year's Open, & the players are just now getting paid?"

BARRY: ".....we found out after almost 2 months, because they were overseas, & i am not going to throw Roberta or anybody under the bus, she IS my bookkeeper and i SHOULD have been reminded of this sooner, but....

i have been working my ass off to rebuild my business. and i've done a real good job: i've hired a consultant; i've hired a company that comes in & weighs all of your liquids once a week; i've hired a POS expert that disects my micros system & then she also checks on comps (?) voice & discounts. cause let's face it, you know, when given the opportunity there are many that will just take advantage of you or me. i have been working smarter.....and now business is booming, like unreal....and i can afford now to....a typical THU/FRI/SAT credit card batches used to be $8-$9K...and last weekend they were $17500; the weekend before that was $15500....
and that's just credit card sales from my little 72 tbl room....

it's insanely good. INSANELY GOOD!"

“I haven’t disappointed EVERY body, thank God….hahaha….for that.”

"My CPA ____ ______ is meeting me here today & we are going to discuss the value of each…."

“The US Open is priceless Jerry & what does that mean? I can’t put a figure on that…."

(Q Masters is apparently doing $2M/yr)

“Changes w/ personnel & having smart people doing smart work makes a lot of sense.”

“To put a premium on my little 72 table room that’s doing UNBELIEVABLE #s - I mean UNBELIEVABLE CRAZY #s - I believe that timing is right for a premium price.”

“it’s just time”

“Ï have failed, as well as succeeded”

(Coke & pepsi are apparently banging on his doors, thanks to the City of Norfolk, Mayor, Chamber of Commerce, & City Council kicking in financially)

WPA has to be @ minimum $70K added for Tier 2 pricing. he paid a $3600 sanction fee @ 90 days advance payment.

$6000(+/-) to be paid in full to balance 4 players tomorrow or MON. "not going to be a problem."

I listened to the whole thing and I have one question: Is he bipolar? I ask because I saw his text to that unpaid player that he was poor, and then he said in the interview that his business is doing very well.
