Cleaning OB Classic + ferrule

I've been using an OB Classic + shaft for about a month and the ferrule has become really dirty. I wipe down my shafts with an alcohol damp paper towel and a square of magic eraser every once in a while but this still doesn't get the ferrule back to white. I had my cue repairman do a shaft cleaning a couple days ago and sure enough the ferrule still wasn't returned to its original color.

I believe this is a linen based ferrule problem as I have some shafts that are not linen based and much older that still look very new. I have also used other shafts with linen based ferrules that look rather dirty. Then again, it couldn't be related to that at all, I'm not sure.

Is there a way I can color the ferrule with a black or brown sharpie? If the ferrule does take the color will it rub off on the table cloth?

To OB if you read this, can I get a wooden ferrule put on my Classic + shaft?

Thanks.
