The Hustlers new Clip

Maybe I'm such a pool nerd that I'll watch anything, but this looks really interesting to me. I hope that it generates a little interest in pool, but I don't know how wide TruTV reaches...

Can always hope for a poker-like comeback for pool, right?

I'm having a hard time watching this clip on my phone for some reason. It stops and buffers every few seconds even though I have a strong 4G signal. Regardless I watched enough of it to know it looks pretty slick, and nothing like that has been done involving pool in a long time. I'll definitely be watching.

Most people get TruTv but it's not a very watched network. They're obviously trying to change that by adding more original programing like this rather than 19 hours of COPS. That said, their best rated show Impractical Jokers gets about a .4 rating during peak hours. Looking through a normal day of their ratings, the highest they get is .53 at 9-9:15pm. For some perspective on what that mean, the food network Chopped is getting about the same but overall the Food Network retains about a .5 throughout the day while TruTv gets between a .07-.3 through most of the day.

So realistically, it's doubtful the show will blow up but it is cool for pool and will be cool to watch a lot of my friends on tv.

I know I'm not supposed to criticize, but gawd I hate it when they show pool on TV and they show the person stroking, then a camera cut, and then a different camera showing the ball falling in.

Will the UK get this at the same time as you good folks stateside?

When I click on the link I get a webpage with a video window but no content.

I get content when I click on the "Up Next --- Sharks at the Table", but nothing for Hustlers.

Oh well, at least I learned something watching Sharks at the Table: I'm supposed to blow excess chalk off the cue tip. I never knew that.

BTW, the more we like the show, the less chance it has of success. Conversely, if we hate it, it has a chance of popularity with the general public.

Ask a pawnshop owner about Pawn Stars.
Ask a logger about Axe Men.
And so on.

I doubt that any pool player will be impressed with the actual pool games on this show. It's not about that - it's about the "drama".

pj <- might watch occasionally

I'm wondering if that's true haha, valid point. I have heard those things about Pawn Stars especially...those guys are getting PAID though

This way they can miss and do another take :D;)

It's within your right to exercise free speech. Feel free to voice your opinion.

For myself, I try to keep an open mind, not to form an opinion until I have a chance to watch the show. I hope others try to do the same.

That being said, realize the target audience is not hard core pool players, but the average TV viewer. So, that's why you see lots of jump cuts, lasting between .25 to 1.1 seconds to keep the story telling and 'action' alive. It is standard editing for TV shows of this type.

This show is a 'bet'. If the bet pays off for TruTV, then you'll likely to see other stuff in development move forward.

The issue is that likely the drama is created by the director telling what they want to see vs what actually happens around the room. A hotel I go to often had the fish tank show there installing a tank in a new building. When we got a tour of the place they told us that during the filming they broke a tank on purpose for "drama".

If they can get a hidden camera in a pool room with some action going on, they can get some nice footage, just a bit of editing, and you have a show.

I know I know. But come on this is reality Tv, isn't the whole point to be a spectacle and get negative attention? If you can't mock reality TV a little without people getting mad at you, what is this world coming to? Is nothing... um not sacred any more? :p
