I'm just fried that Ryan Keller is still above me, lol.

Why is Mike Z listed at 500 to 1 and Keith is 250 to 1 when Mike beat Keith straight up?

You'd think they would at least be even according to the IPT standings, which they very obviously did not go off of.

And why do they have commas between their first and last names?

You got above Ellerby which should make you smile given her performance, comma's are a pretty standard when listing surnames first, what do you mean?

Surprising for me would be Rico Diks at 100-1 and Hohmann not being favorite, add to that Jasmin at 2000-1!

Odds aren't based on just one tournament or match they are based on a combination of recent results and career results. That is why Hohmann is listed at 20/1 and Efren and Manalo are listed at 10/1 even though Hohmann beat them both and won the last tournament.

Worst Lines

Jasmin 2000-1
Alvarez 250-1

The first five Favs all flipinos- maybe John Schmidt can come on and explain his 'Filipinos not too good at 8 Ball' theory in more detail.

to be honest these outright bets are poor value, just too many decent players and low odds at the sharp end.

I just hope they have individual lines in the first round, without doubt this will turn up a few easy multibets.

I'm liking Danny, Harriman 250/1 for my darkhorse

That is a bet hard to turn down. So are, Jeremy Jones, Jose Parica, and John Schmidt. Long odds.
I just hope there are no repeat winners and none return to the top for. Spread the money out.
I'll bet Danny plays like he is on a mission from God.

Erm... I think bookmakers know perfectly well how to work out odds. It's delusional punters convincing themselves that favourite means most likely to win that keeps them in yachts and helipads.

The surname is not listed first. Our Queen is right. There's no reason for the commas.

I was simply giving a basic explanation why a player could have lower odds than a player who beat him in the last tournament. Of course other things factor in to it. The Dallas Cowboys always have lower odds than they really deserve because they have a large fan base and a large number of people will bet on them simply because they are fans of the team.

That doesn't change the fact that a list of players like this would probably be developed based on the performance that the bookmaker expected(or rankings) and then it would be adjusted to account for other factors.

I do think that the bookie is setting the odds based on other statistically significant factors, maybe the player's track record, and not on one sole match in Vegas last month.

In the last 5 years, I know that Keith has not competed in any tournament outside of the continential United States. I'm not sure who's making the odds for Stan James, but it's obvious that they're a little GREEN when it comes to American players. Some of the odds of the American players are way off, IMHO.

I thought Mike Z played EXCELLENT in Vegas at the N.A. 8-Ball Championship, and, yes, he did defeat Keith in fine fashion in round one. :)

If I were a betting person, though, not taking one thing away from how well Mike Z plays, I'd put my money on Keith. I might lose in the long run, but I'm a little more familiar with Keith's game and believe that he just may be able to defeat Mike Z, if given another opportunity, especially if he's not wearing a long-sleeved button-down shirt. :D

That's true, and given that both Sarah and Jasmin are ranked the same as I (but not for long!) is dumb too.

The surnames are not listed first, the first names are, with a comma in between. ;) Is that what they mean by hiding in plain sight?

If you want a good outside bet look at Appleton at 125/1. Brilliant english pool player at the top of that game for so many years and never far away in anything he enters. He was disappointed with his finish in LV but still managed 10th place.

Doh! Me bad!

(they must have got names mixed up then)

That's ok, it will just cost you one rep bar or backing away 1" off Timberly's bum, lol.

WOW.

Ralf Souquet had the highest break and run percentage of the tournament and had just as good of a chance as anyone else to win the NAO.

IN fact, anyone who gets down to the last group of 6 has a real chance of winning it all. Bustamante did not (not that he doesn't have the same chance to win it all too), but he's given better odds.
