Pawn Shop Sneaky Pete - Who made it?

I found a Sneaky in a pawn shop in Lincoln Nebraska. I am wondering if anybody might recognize it. Probably quite a long shot, but worth a try. I am under no illusion that it is valuable or made by a big name. Just a cheap find that's obviously a conversion.

It is a 60 inch cue
18.9 ounces
13 mm tip
Brown phenolic joint collars with a thin (about 3mm) black ring.
Plain maple decorative ring above the butt cap (21mm), with a black (3mm) ring above and below.
Brown phenolic butt cap.
3/8x10 stainless pin, flat on the tip.

Seems like a pretty decent cue. Maybe a hobyist? Maybe a repair man or cue maker.

Needs cleaned up a little but it's a very solid cue.

Thanks.

Now three of them turned sideways! LOL!

At least they work now. :)

JoshStodola: Thanks for the green, and clear your messages dude, you are full.

Anyway, I'll respond here:

I am not in Nebraska. I found the cue for $20 on the web. I love the Pawn Shops going online. When they can't sell a cue locally, they put it online. There are various sights to check. (It was NOT Ebay.)

Originally they were trying to sell this cue locally for $50. Well worth at least that I would think.

They then listed it for 19.95!

I figured it would be hard to go wrong for 20 bucks. They had it listed as a 16 ounce cue and it's actually 18.9 ounces. They also never said it was 60 inches. LOL!

Anyway, I already PMed Ryan about it and haven't heard back.

Just real curious. It's obviously a great find for $20 no matter what. :D

With a $100 refinish, that cue is a gem. Great wood in the bar cue.

Nice find, and the brown looks like 1980s.

It does look like it has been around for a while. The shaft wood is pretty nice actually.

Screw the refinish. I'm just going to clean, seal, and polish the shaft. The butt should clean up nicely actually. Easy enough at home. More than good enough for a bar cue.

For a bar cue, it definitely is a gem so far but I still have to try it out. I am not a 60 inch cue guy. No idea what I am doing with it yet anyway. I'll just clean it up for now. I have friends that need cues and I have more than enough unless I really dig how it plays.

I do know one really tall dude that is a casual player. A friend of my daughter. Might be nice for him. I wonder when his birthday is?

Cue

Looks a lot like a Jerry Olliver cue, not sure if I spelled his name correctly
cause it's always hard to read his signature. He signs his cues in cursive
on the forearm.

Interesting. I have seen a sneaky with brown phenolic butt plate and that natural maple ring that was done by him.

Checked his web site and there are a couple.

Thanks.

Actually, to further complicate matters, I have reliable information that it actually came from New Mexico and not Nebraska.

The plot thickens. LOL!

Not likely to find anything further out I think.

Not sure who made it either, but I am sure that you
got a sweet deal. Nice find and purchase!

I was just told it looks like an old Wayne Gunn conversion.

Any thoughts?

That would be cool.

I don't have my hopes up for anything on this cue except a decent player for a cheap price. I have no delusions about it.

Oh....and I just scratched the finish...right on the points...just now. MOTHER&^%#!!! I haven't dinged or scratched a cue in a lot of years! Oh well, at least it was a $20 cue and not a $1000 cue! LOL!

Well that's cool!

I don't think I'm selling it at this point.

Had it at the pool hall and enjoyed it. Cue plays nice.

I still think it looks like one of Jerry Oliver's cues and if it came from
New Mexico that's one one state over from him I belive. If I was you
I would call him.

Maybe you'll get super lucky and it turn out to be and early sugartree,
I think New Mexico is where Eric Crisp is from.
