Fargo Breakdown - 8-Ball Gold Teams @ BCAPL Nationals

What I did was to look at the top 5 players in Fargo Rating on each of the 348 teams.
I added them up and got the TOTAL FARGO column.
I took the low and high ratings and got the FARGO LO and FARGO HI columns.
I then counted the number of unknowns (425/525/625) and got the # UNK column.

Thanks for the info....and I hate for you to do more work but as an FYI - 675 is also an unknown (unknown previous Master level player).
 
Also BCAPL should have limited the number of 'unknown' players on a team to 2. The Canadian Team 'Dream Team' with 4 players, you can assume they are all under ranked.

edited to add - didn't see your stat on the top. 46 teams with 4 or more players as unknown. And that number will go up once you add in the 675 ranked players.

Thanks...there are only 3 unknown 675's so it's not a huge impact.

What I did notice is that there is a huge disconnect between the Fargo ratings on the Fargo site and the Fargo rating in the BCAPL database.

Mike / Ozzy....how often does CSI update their database?

I don't know why you are so twitchy about this. So what if they are unknown? They were unknown for the last 15 years. Once they play in this format they will no longer be unknown. We have to give this system a year or two to get fully up to speed and then all will be snoochie boochies

From my perspective, a team with four unknowns would most likely end up in a completely different division if they had accurate ratings. This has a big impact on the teams with known players who are in the division they are supposed to be in based on their ratings.

Say I have a team with 5 unknown 525s who play 600 speed. Unknown they are in the gold division but known they are in the platinum division. They will run over a team which is legitimately ranked 2625.

And you know what? We are going to have to live with that for a year or two until Fargo has fully spread. As time goes on more leagues will be submitting games to Fargo, and there will be more local Fargo tournaments available for players to up their "robustness".

What we have now is SO MUCH better than what we had last year. It's not perfect yet but it is quickly heading in that direction.
 
How in the world did you logistically do this spreadsheet? Did you have to look up all of the names on the teams, then look up their fargo rating, sort them, then input that into excel? Please tell me you did not have to use this brute force method?

I do not feel like arguing. I think there should have been some requirement like you need to have 50 games in the system to compete in Nationals. That is what all other leagues do. The point of this is to get rid of unknown players and level the playing field. My league operator said he has been sending in our league games but my rating does not reflect that. My whole team is still basically unknown.

The point is - IF the BCAPL used the same system as last year, you and your whole team could still play and would still be unknown. This year, with the FargoRate, people are getting hung up on the rating. I know the BCAPL has it on their website and they also have it in emails, etc. but IF I was the BCAPL, I would have scheduled in say March a conference call with each league in their system. Take the time to explain how FargoRate works, how people will be where they would be if there wasn't FargoRate and they didn't have a ranking. And then answer any questions. This would have helped tremendously in getting attendance up for Vega$.

And this is exactly where they are heading. Kid of like golf...if you don't have an established handicap, you ain't playin.

Do you not see your Fargo rate change on the BCAPL site or the FargoRate site? In my experience it can take several weeks to have our games put into the Fargo database, and you can wait another long time to see that rate updated on the BCAPL site.

The folks at CSI are extremely busy now but I assure you they have the time blocked out to fully update the Fargo ratings prior to the Nationals.

Same boat here and I believe only win loss record is sent for us. Not matches. So no data on who played who.

This is correct for my area as well. Not sure how only sending win/loss records will be of use for the ratings though.

I agree with this. It could take years for all of the entrants to become "known" players. Our state sanctioning body absolutely refuses to share match/player info with BCAPL because one of the board members has a beef with BCAPL for some unknown reason. It seems one way to resolve this would be to require at least one league "season" in a BCAPL league that reports results to be eligible for tournament play.

Screw the WSPA. Have your local league operator call or email Mike Page from FargoRate and set up a way for your league results to be sent directly from your local league. Just because a few whiny old dudes want to do things their way instead of the BCAPL way shouldn't mean players like yourself get crapped on.

There are 16 teams at a 3000 combined Fargo or above. Most of these have subs registered that will allow them to play below 3000.

The longest team name belongs to Hollywood American Legion Post 43, followed by Magnificent Trojan Puppies :grin::grin::grin: and Lakewood Family Billiards. All 3 of these teams are from California.

The shortest team names are RYO (Florida) and XPN (Georgia).

The most common words in team names (besides 'the') are 'cues', 'rack', 'shooters', and 'team'.

There are 23 teams with all unknown (525) players. League 18 (Jersey City, NJ) and league 1217 (Alberta, Canada) each have 3 completely unknown teams.

The only team outside of North America is team 'New Zealand' out of, you guessed it, New Zealand.

There are 41 states represented in the Gold 8-ball teams. The missing states are Iowa, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming.
