Women 9 Ball Champion at the age of 16

2016 Amway eSpring International Women 9-Ball Championship

Congratulations to Chezka Luy Centeno who at 16 years of age from the Philippines has won her biggest tournament to date and certainly one of the most prestigious, over veteran and World Champion Kelly Fisher by a score of 11-8 .

She also won the SEA games against former world 9&10 ball champion, fellow phillipino , rubilen Amit. This is her biggest achievement but she is no dark horse or unknown if you follow big time pool abroad. She took down recent world 9 ball champion on her road to the "w". Centeno is the equivalent of chua as far as pace and speed aggression. But they are both world championship contenders and winners.

She now has a Fargo Rating of 764

We have matches for in for the

Mike, is it fair to say Karen Corr's 727 is probably equivalent to Centeno's # ,as Karen has more play against men?
Or, is Karen's # possibly higher due to playing the men?

Here's what I posted in another thread 3 days ago:

... it was quite a performance by the teenager Centeno:
- beat a couple of world champs prior to the semifinal
- survived a hill/hill semifinal match with a world champ
- beat another world champ 11-8 in the finals after trailing 1-5
- won 8 straight matches with an overall record of 64-29 in games:

1. Sara Rocha 7-1
2. Annette Grigg 7-2
3. Ga-Young Kim 7-5
4. Eun-Ji Park 7-3
5. Amalia Matas 7-1
6. Yuan-Chun Lin 9-1
7. Han Yu 9-8
8. Kelly Fisher 11-8

Wow what an awesome shooter!! With some more tournament wins

and experience on the circuit she will beat the ladies and the men!!!

When she shoots banks and gos for other shots pros would

play safe on !! She will be a champion for the ages!! She will be in a class

all by herself//One to watch -:thumbup:

It may sounds sexist, but she plays like a man. In a couple of years, none of the other women on the tour will be able to compete at her level.

I watched her play during this tournament and she had no equal.

This still is a pretty small sample size I'd love to see how Karen actually fares in rematches with the men , I would take many on that list in a rematch in a race to 9 a couple I would bet the house in a race to 100

A race to 100 is a different thing than a race to 9 or 11 or whatever. There are only so many things FargoRate can factor in, but there could be some players (think Miz in his somewhat later days) that I might well favour Ina race to 11 that I wouldn't bet on in a race to 100.

There could be players at the other end who only hit their gear well into a set, so they may perform better in a long race.

I'm not saying that Karen's results would be different. In terms of rematches, obviously her odds of beating a much higher ranked player like Big Ko (as she did at the US Open) are way lower in a race to 100

I watched some of her matches in the Amway...I was very impressed. I think she is a phenom and I agree with Hawaiian Eye that she will dominate the women's events for a long time to come. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if she wins a lot of men's events too.

She draws some bead...

Age 16??? So much for the theory that it takes decades of dedicated work to become proficient at pool. I mean, she hasn't lived decades. Damn, she must have been born with a natural aiming system...

I don't know how old she was when she started, but her family owned some sort of pool room.

Oh, She is good all right. I saw a video of her a while back playing the 9 ball ghost and she smashed him 10 zip. I don't think she even took ball in hand on at least half the racks.

Her shotmaking and belief in herself reminds me of a young Earl Strickland. Congratz to Her !

 Here are Chezka's last 3 matches in the recently concluded AMWAY tournament. Her finals match against Kelly Fisher was spectacular. She reminds me so much of Johann Chua.

Johann chua ?!
Nah , he's not fast enough, Johann 's a good player but she's prob closer to Jeffrey Ignacio or Jayson Shaw fast type of player.
Run n Gun all day, mentality = i will make every shot so as long as there is a pocket , forget about safety, 2 way shot or if i miss cuz I WON'T MISSS LOL
very exciting to watch , put some of the man to shame when she shoots n runs out way faster than them

This was also said by people in the know about Simeng Chen when she came along 4-5 years ago or so at 16 (approximately) She was and is playing great but doesnt dominate the women and hasn't won a men's event either. Not sure how many she has played though.
