My Prelim of Chuck Starky Cue

To continue from several other threads about Mr. Starky. I am sure most of you are aware of them.

I received this Sneaky Pete from Mr. Starky today. I have not had a chance to play with it and I'm afraid it will be a couple of days before I can, but I thought I would post some pictures and give my feelings on the look and finish.

When I first opened the box, I was very nicely surprised. The pattern in the wood is beautiful. The butt is bocote and the forearm is what I think is curly maple. I hope the pictures do it justice. The finish is smooth, clear, and professional. It screws together nicely and the last turn tightens up very firmly.

It feels good in the hands and the balance feels good but playing with it will tell the whole story.

I will add more when I have a chance to hit with it, but as far as looks and fit/finish are concerned, I couldn't be happier. :) :)

The first two give both sides of the butt.

This is a shot the forearm compared to another sneaky.

That's a nice looking cue. I want to hit a ball with it.

The points appear to be even, as well. Looks nice a very nice cue from Mr Starkey. Please let us know how you like the hit with that big ol' wood pin.

I generally don't like bocote, but that is one nice looking piece of wood!
It looks like Dhakala fullfilled that big favor after all:p

I agree, I'm not a Bacote fan myself either but that is stunning.
Jeff, isn't that last turn surprising?
Is yours the Tiger X shaft also?
My only concern is, I would be afraid to break with it. The threaded end of the shaft seems a little "thin" under the phenolic collar.

I cant imagine waiting TWO DAYS to shoot with it. It would drive me nuts or I would pull out a set of balls and hit some on the carpet!

Just curious but what kind of price range is a custom sneeaky like this cost?

Nice looking cue

This shaft is his own laminated vacuum process shaft. And I won't be breaking with it as I have a break stick. I don't think I would break with it even if I didn't have a break stick, I would grab a house stick. Why take a chance.

Nice looking cue

Thanks, you will have to talk with Mr. Starky about the prices as it depends on materials I would say. What kind of wood, ferrules, tips, shafts, etc. He is a member here, "desi2960"

But I will say his price range is well worth what you get.

Thanks
Hope you emjoy your cue

break with it

i have been using my wood pin cue to break for about a year and i've had no problems. i had a guy snap one in half trying to jam the quarter slot on a table when it got stuck, its not a crow bar. but i dont think you can hurt it by breaking. thanks chuck starkey

Ill try it out tonight during League.

Well, I got to try it this weekend but only for a short bit so I thought I would wait before posting to try it Monday and Tuesday during leagues.

Just on appearance alone, I've never seen a cue get so many looks and questions, and that was when the stick was together. When I show the pin is when the real interest started.

But I've already gone over what I think about the looks, LOVE it.

Now the playability. Two words come to mind first. Smooth and balanced.

The hit is smooth, it's not hard/heavy and it is not light. It's like hitting with a real nice one piece that you run across every once in a while. There's no sound to mention, just a real comfortable feeling when you strike the ball. It feels right in the hands and any shot in any position felt comfortable.

I know I keep using the word "comfortable", but I can't think of a better way to describe the way it feels. To me this is a very good thing because you don't even think about the stick after a few shots, you just move and shoot.

As much as I like this cue, I will probably use my other sneaky with the Tiger-X shaft. This is not anything against this cue, it's more of a statement of how much I like the Tiger shaft. I would love to have a Tiger-X shaft made for this cue, for me, then it would be perfect.

In conclusion,

I don't think you can go wrong with one of Mr. Starky's cues as I think they will all have a similar feeling, and the workmanship & looks are outstanding. And probably the best thing is you can be sure of a great customer relationship with him.

I know he has used tiger shafts before so I will say, if you like the smooth hit of a nice one piece, get one with his regular shaft. If you like a hard stiff hit like I do, get one with a Tiger-X shaft mated to it.
