Its George has my Case!!! (and won't send it back)

Hi everyone.

I have a dilemma I thought I'd share to see what opinions are.

I have an Its George case from 1993. A rivet had popped loose so I contacted Mike Roberts and sent the case to him 6 months ago. It was supposed to take a couple of days and I would get it sent back.

This is my case - http://genesisstudios.com/images/Case.JPG

In the meantime, Mike had gotten ill and was hospitalized, and subsequently decided to sell Its George company. I spoke with Mike here and there, inquiring about getting my case sent back, fixed or not, and it was always a hassle trying to get in touch.

I have been very understanding of his medical issues and even offered to pay return postage, plus additional compensation just to get my case back to me.

About 3 weeks ago, I finally got in touch and he said he would send my case right out. I received a box a couple days later and it was not my case!!

I contacted Mike right away and let him know and he said he would try to find mine..?

I don't want the case I was sent.. its not mine. (its not even close to mine)
I want back the case I have had for the last 24 years!

Anyone offer any suggestions besides seeking legal counsel? (original case cost me over $500 and its still in great condition, minus some 24 years of pool traveling)
Does anyone live by or know Mike Roberts?

Thanks,
Adam

Personally, I would chalk it up to having a "good run" with the old case and move on. Sentimental value is great, so maybe I'd send one or two more emails hoping for a miracle - but stressing over something like that wouldn't be worth it for me.

Surely your original was a good (if not great) pool case. But in the end, it's just a pool case...

I sent (4) cases to Mike a few years ago and it took about a year to get them back.
Maybe his health has gotten worse since then, but I don't think he was well then.
In fact I thought he stopped building again after a brief run of cues and cases.

I had to bug him every once and awhile, but he came through.
Nice guy to talk to, but I doesn't surprise me that you're having issues.
I don't think he is well.

Keep calling I guess

Would you say the same of your 24 year old (insert name of valuable cue)__________ !
After all it's just a cue and you had a good run with it!

Yes, thank you..
I was going to comment on that but didn't..

I just want it back. Its been to a 1000 pool rooms with me.....

Maybe

Try posting a picture of the case you received maybe the owner of it has your case and you can handle it between the two of you. Just a thought.

One of the 3-6's I sent him was one of the first.
The plastic insert was a hair smaller than most so now the lid is really tight.
At least it works and I got it back.
Mike said it was rare.
Still has the original price tags from Aurora Billiards in Aurora Colorado.

These are the remnants of my collection
One is in a box somewhere.

We know he is unwell, I believe a son or son-in-law is helping with the cases.

As for your case a legal maneuver might not work as well as you like. Why? You returned a very old product to a manufacturer for repair and they sent you a replacement. On paper that could look like really great customer service. Any lawyer responding to a claim can easily say your case was old, obsolete, not reasonably repairable, etc.

Personally, I would want my case back. Definitely. There could be no replacement.

I would just keep trying.

He did not send me a replacement, but someone else's by accident.. Its actually in bad shape and not the same case as mine.

He was sending me back mine... My case is in very good shape...It had one rivet missing

He's at fault entirely.....you are entitled to you orig. case & I'd sure want it back if it was mine.
Don't listen to the the naysayers on the Forum that tell you move on......they have no idea how
importat that case might have been to you.......what if it was you dad's or someone special?
If they cannot recover your case, then they owe you the best case they make regardless of
whether it costs even twice as much or even 3x what your case was worth. This type of screwup
is really from just being careless on their part & there is no excuse for that & so they owe it to you.

Ah-

I misunderstood the matter of the case he sent you.

In any case I would keep trying.

That happened to me when I took my 1957 Bel Air Nomad in for repairs.
The garage gave a 3 year old Toyota Corolla as a replacement.
In court they proved the Corolla was worth more than the Bel Air's original selling price of $5,300.
I miss that car.

It's still George

Hi Wybrook, I do hope you get your case back. I have one that has served me very well and has some personal stories that would curl your hair.

Mike Roberts is a stand up guy

Years of doing the right thing, both in cases and cues

One of the best guys in the industry

Health issues and other problems are hard to take
perhaps his mind wandered
its tough fighting for your life

give the guy a break,he is trying to do the right thing

At one time he made a case that lasted you 24 years
at a cost of what ?$1000 ?

He recently got behind on a couple he owed me
then out of the blue, 2 great cases showed up

Lets give mike a break,no lets give him a hand
he deserves our appreciation

i agree give him a chance from here. but send him a picture of the case with your address on it. so he can identify it if its still in his possession. and if not he may be able to find it.

I assume it was an honest mistake. After 6 months, he may not even remember what your case looks like. Do you have an old pic of your case that you could email to him? Who knows, but he might have a 100 old used cases laying around his shop.

Very nice heartfelt (good hearted) post.

Your title is misleading versus your story, I've yet to read the part where he refused to send your case back to you, only that he sent the incorrect one and is hard to get ahold of(which mind you, after 6 months to replace a single rivet and barely being able to get ahold of someone during it, I would be doing everything including knocking on their door if they lived within a reasonable distance of me).

He seems to have a good reputation, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's resolved in a manner that pleases you both.
