How does it make any sense economically to travel to Moscow?

Holy s:$&@ 30% tax money!!!! N why would they not tax first thru third but they do tax the rest? That's weird

US promoters are usually required to withhold 30% from foreign players (NRAs or non-resident aliens) and submit 1042 and 1042-S forms or to file 1099 forms for U.S. residents. I looked around briefly for minimum amount exemptions for 1042 forms and could not find any, except a less-then-$10 exemption on interest payments.

Only if subsidized, if not it is still cost prohibitive.
There are very few players who can reasonably expect to make any money going to that or nearly any other pool tournament. You have to want to play in pool tournaments for other reasons. A glance at the AZB money leader board makes that pretty clear: http://www.azbilliards.com/people/

Pool is an expensive hobby for most, a break-even hobby for a few, and a worth while profession for maybe one pool player in a million. Or maybe one in 10 million.

Do you mean in reference to the US Mosconi Cup team? Isn't that the tournament they are playing in? If so, its not about the money, but the training. Rocky 4;)

Makes working in a coal mine sound glamorous.

You're right it is good training, but someone is footing the bill for it. For whomever that is Mosconi Cup fans owe a debt of gratitude.

There is a WPA logon on the poster, I thought to have a WPA sanctioned event you needed to have some minimum prize fund and added money? 52k for a "major" event total prize seems like nothing.

I think there just needs to be 25000 in added money for WPA, which it seems like they are doing. Entries are a little low for an event like this. They probably wantex to ensure a large field.

How so? It's 1200 miles from Berlin to Moscow. Direct flight.

That's the same as flying from NY to Dallas.

To put it in perspective, it's 2700 miles from NY to LA.

If you're from Berlin Germany:
airfare--------------------$200
hotel room 6 nights---$480
food 6 days ------------$150
entry fee-----------------$170
total-----------------------$1,000

Just off the top of my head. I personally think my numbers are probably low considering I'm not factoring in taxes, ground transport etc.

OK, so it's just like American pool tournaments then. Agreed

Just a question, If this is a practice event for team USA why isnt Sky with the rest of his team mates??? Hell Oscar is there and he just had a baby, I like all the guys on the team and i think we are going to do well this year. Just dont think this is the way to start the TEAM mentality.
