Is it just a manuscript in a file or is it an actual book?

No wonder shipping is free - it's an e-book!

Actually, a PDF file so i can print it out and read it. This is supposed to be in advance of the book.

OK, here it is. I'll stick my neck out on this - because I've just skimmed it over but I like what I see. 170 pages, large print, PDF file, printable.

If you are interested in pool at the Championship level, and are fascinated at the immensely competitive Filipino players, this book is an absolute MUST READ. The book is perfectly straight forward. It contains a lot of biographical information about the Filipino champions and the pool scene in the Phillipines. It has a lot of anectdoes and so forth about the pros, and descibes their mental set preparing and competing in a major tournament, as well as some of their physical preparation techniques.

The book is well written, though I would say not pofessionally edited. The author has a strong understanding of the Filipino culture and has done a great job conveying their mind set in a way the western mind can understand. He's done a lot of interviewing, studying, and questioning.

For $10 this book is a terrific reference piece. I'm going to read it in full later.

Joe,

I just finished reading it. I'm changing from a "must read" to a "worthwhile read". It needs lot of editing. I think it's a pretty good primer on the Filipino pros, the personaities and attitudes - maybe not as in depth or as much story telling as I would have liked to see. It would have been interesting to learn more of the practice regimen of the Filipino pros - I've heard stories on disiplined practice regimen.

No technical information, then, Chris? It sounds less didactic and more novelistic. Thanks.

I'm disappointed.
I was hoping to see Tate with 16-inch bridge and rollercoaster stroke next month at Hard Times.

:p :p :p :p :p

I get sea-sick just watching that stuff. I hear Danny Petralba has been playing some awesome pool lately down there.

No, no technical information, just mostly mental preparation, attitude, some personal stuff about the players. Not in-depth enough for me, but there is a lot of information, unfortunately, much of it is already public. It's more of a compilation of public information mixed with Filipino attitudes.

I liked one part where Parica and Efren show their contrasting styles, but it's all quotes from the loquation Parica. He thinks Efren has a "go for it" risk taker attitude, playing to the crowd, where Jose descibes himself as a safety player, only concerned about winning, not impressing. There's another part about Alex and a drinking problem, and Bustamante's personal tragedies. Problem is the issues are just skirted over.

I've talked to Efren and Parica a few about the game.
Efren told me flatout, if you want to learn how to play, watch Parica. Efren admits he spins the cueball too much.
Jose admitted he hates to shoot with inside English and he said he has no clue how Efren can shoot so accurately with inside english.
