How to stop balls from jumping off bar box rails.

These are the 4 Global 3 1/2 x 7 tables I recently recovered and fixed for the Cue Club in Las Vegas. In the first picture I showed you one of the problems associated with most bar box tables as a flaw from the manufacture. Because the slates sit inside the table, and the weight of the slate is supported by the rails, the have a tendency to want to dip down on the face of the rail giving the rail cushions more of a downward angle to them instead of straight out like they're suppose to be. Then the second reason the balls jump off the rails is because who ever recovered them last didn't wrap the cloth around the bottom of the rail, they just stapled it to the bottom of the rail. When technicians do this, it's like they're adding a shim of cloth behind the top back side of the rail, causing it to tilt downward, but when they don't wrap the cloth around the bottom of the rail up to the back side, they're causing the rail to tilt downward even more. As you can see in the pictures of the before and after height of the rail measured by the square, the rails are almost down to 1 5/16" of an inch, that's what causes the balls to jump off the rails. I placed cloth shims below the rail bolts, which causes the rails to stand more up right when they're attached, and as you can see by the after picture, they're right at 1 7/16" of an inch high. You can also see all the spray glue I scraped off the slate. When there's that much spray glue on the surface of the slate, the balls won't role straight along the rails because it's like they're rolling on a hillside because of all the built up spray glue. I use a roll on glue, and only apply it to the side of the slate, not on top, nor underneath, only on the actual thickness of the slate.

Then as you can see, the tables turned out great, and Henry, Ed, and Greg at the Cue Club are very pleased, so are their league players.
