Southwest airlines lost all of my cues....

and claim they aren't responsible, nor will I get reimbursed. :(

Their reasoning for this is two fold. First being that I was not a "full fare-paying customer" since I was using my reward points (some thanks for spending a ton of money with them, huh?). Secondly, because... Limits on liability for loss, damage to, or delayed delivery of passenger baggage, including fragile, perishable, and certain other irreplaceable or high-value goods or contents (inlcuding collectible, antique, or "one of a kind" items)....

I'm missing ~$5500 worth of stuff. I am still hanging on to a thread of hope that it will turn up, but I've spoken with my originating, layover, and destination airports, and nothing has been found at all. No explanation or speculation as to what may have happened. This was every cue I owned, with the exception of one. What really sucks was I was going to sell two of them to knock down my credit card balance.....

JWPetree (ebony/flame, 3 shafts) - forearm built by ScottR - sad part was I rec'd this Thur, lost on Friday, never even played with it.

AE w/ orginial shaft + brand new shaft that Dennis Searing built a month ago - great hitting cue, the short amount that I got to play with it..

An old Rambow (1 shaft) that I was going to either sell or have it documented and cleaned up...

and my break cue (Sledgehammer - older one that says, "Gulyassy Custom Cues"), that was kind of sentimental based upon how I got it..... that pisses me off, especially since I JUST had a new tip and shaft conditioning done, too...

These were all in two cases, and traveling inside of a Porper black travel case.....

Black Ostrich 2x4 It's George/Brunswick - brand new... :(
Jim Murnak 2x4 Dark Brown with "RC" initials on the lid..

I can't say that it's 100% gone, but after speaking with every place I've been, and some I didn't even get to, it's not looking too promising.... I was told that they check twice daily all lost luggage into the system, and since I filed a report with them, they have all of my contact info and numbers that were on my luggage.

I'm pretty sure my cues will turn up, but where, and for what price they will be available for purchase is the question.... I just wished I was in a position to say, "It's just money!" and write it off, but I think this just killed me. I am still checking ebay, craigslist, and the like - and will be until I find something.

All of my stuff is gone. This sucks. :(

I would be livid and devastated.

I will always keep an eye out for the cues until you get them back. Wow, what a catastrophe. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

They said if they don't find them within the first 48hrs, they typically don't surface..... It's been 49.

I'd consult a lawyer as soon as possible, I find it hard to believe they are not responsible. I wish you the best of luck finding/getting them back. MAKE 'EM PAY!!!

I would be making a VERY public stink about this. If we are FORCED to check cues into luggage, then they need to be covered....whether you are a full fare paying customer or not...bottom line here is, once they take possession of these items, they are responsible for them!

I feel very, very bad for you, Ross...this sucks, AND, it's not fair! If SW Airlines is having a theft issue within their ranks...well, they are directly responsible for their employees behavior, and that makes them culpable.

Agreed.

Don't give them a minute's peace. keep on to em, you have nothing to lose.

Assume that they were stolen by airlines employees. File a report with the police. I got ripped for a $1000 camera by ATA right out of my bag. It's in the fine print on the back of the tickets that they claim no responsibility. I did some investigating after it happened to me. The airlines are trying to keep this quiet but since 911 and people have been leaving their bags unlocked thievery is rampant.

There have been some sting operations up north with hidden cmaeras and such. They went to one guys house and he had 254 bags in his garage that he had stolen from work.

In some cases your home owners or renters insurance will cover items lost while traveling.

Oh I assure you, I think you all know that I don't let things die... I will keep on them. I have made 4 calls so far this morning, but until day 5, I just have to keep calling to see if anything has turned up. After that is when I file a claim with their HQ, which is where I have already been told I will be denied due to value/contents, however I will do what needs to be done to ensure I don't get it without some lube...

Thats a bunch of crap, I would call a lawyer and get your money back at least, i know it doesnt full cover the cues if you really like them that much, sorry for you loss.

Sheesh, I was just about to book a flight on Southwest to Vegas and it would be the first time I've needed to fly with my cues.

I have a US Airways option that I think I'll take thanks!

Just because some fine print read by an employee says they're not responsible doesn't mean squat. Good luck with your fight!

I seen this on there website.

Liability: Unless excess value is declared and charges paid at the time of checkin, Southwest Airlines' liability for lost, damaged or delayed baggage is limited to $3,000.00 per fare-paying Customer.

That is where I had it out with one of the SW employees, however they have told me it is $2800 per bag, so if one doesn't show, I pray the other one doesn't either.... unless it's my cues. Screw my clothes.

If anybody thinks a write in campaign would help on this matter I am more than willing. I dont know if it would do any good but it might be worth a shot.

This is awful. :( In addition to the good suggestions above, I'm wondering if anyone on this board works for or knows someone who works for Southwest? A friend on the inside can be very helpful.

Also, Southwest has a blog - http://www.blogsouthwest.com . (Hope I inserted the link right) It's mostly a lovefest for Soutwest, but there are some complaints posted, and Southwest employees do respond.

I say we need to all post to the blog. Tactful responses though. Not a smash fest.

That's a hell of a loss and I really feel for you. I'm all about security but I wish there was a way that they could let players have their sticks x-rayed and carried on. I thought mine was gone coming back from Vegas but it turned up on the last minute. Best of luck in getting them back. Let us know how this turns out.

Does anyone know where you can get a good 3-pice cue. If there's any out there, it would fit in my luggage and I would not have to worry about somethng like this happening to me.

Nice racket the airlines have going. First, have the feds ban cues as carry on items. Then hire thugs and thieves as baggage handlers while denying any liability. This is locking the barn door after the horses have escaped, but I'd suggest shipping your cues seperately, fedex or UPS, heavily insured. That, or drive... I'll keep my eyes open, but unlikely they'll show up in the places I frequent.

My sympathy...

I don't know if you are thinking of carrying a 3 piece cue on the airplane. If that is what you are thinking, you are required to check it. Pool cues are weapons you know...

Otherwise, a normal 2 piece cue fits perfectly fine in a large suitcase.
