To the collectors ??? about Black Boars

I know this belongs in the cue talk section along with at least 10 other posts here but I want to throw this out here.

Tate and I had a volley about Palmers in my April fools thread about which ones are more valuable/desirable.. his interest was in the line cues Palmer made.. my interest would be the Palmer one offs.. in the same vein, what about Black Boars?

I see mad money being spent on the customs that Tony is making over the last few years, but his line cues seem to be capped. I don't know why this is, an AS-10 is like the equivalent of a model M or even a Palmer Supreme # 20, but yet IMHO the value is not similar. I see cueaddicts has an AS-10 for 5k and if I was a collector, I would think its a great deal. Maybe I am wrong. But the prices I see being spent on the other cues, I think its probably a 7.5k cue or better.

Opinions???

One we had recently...

yeah, since a BB as-10 sold for $9900 in VF, putting one up on a website for half price is kinda nuts, or friggin retarted.

I am not a big fan of BB cues. I have owned a few and thought them to be average at best.If I had the $ they ask for them I would spend it on a Showman or Searing as their workmanship and playibility are superior.BB rubbed me the wrong way at Valley Forge a few years back when he acted like he invented the wheel and every other cuemaker is catching up with him.Again this is an IMO statement.

Being a BB fanatic myself (for those that didn't know)....I can say that I think the AS-10 Cueaddicts has is priced REALLY right....

I've never seen a "catalog" cue sell for $10k.....but it would not shock me...especially for a brand new, unused one...or perhaps one with scrim work in the large ivory ovals on the buttsleeve.

Again, Tony admits that you either love 'em or hate 'em.....there doesn't appear to be a group of folks that ride the fence. For those of us that love 'em, they're worth every penny we're willing to spend.

As to the older model values and their relation to the newer stuff...perhaps they don't bring as much due to the fact there are MANY more older model cues than the newer ones? There are roughly 400-500 older cues.....as compared to approx. 100 six-pointers, and approx 40-50 eight-pointers. That's pretty much a 4 to 1 ratio....and goes back to the supply/demand thing.

All that said....it's entirely feasible that I'm talking out of my a$$, and have no idea what I'm saying.

I'll Jump In On This One, As A Collector........

I Would Be More Interested, In The Newer Fancy Customs. I'm Not A Big Fan Of Line Cues From Anyone. When I Was Collecting Richard Black's I Only Bought One Of's, And One Of Variations Of Line Cues. I Saw An Eight Point As 10, A Few Weeks Back, And Would Have Been Interested In That Cue, Because It Ws Different. I Can Say For Sure, The Last Two Catalog Bb's I Had, I Had Trouble Moving(for The Record, It Was Some Time Ago)

So As A Collector, I Agree With The Market Trend, I'd Be More Into The Newer Customs.

That is an awesome example of a Black Boar and I am one person who enjoys this cue line.

That is an awesome example of a Black Boar and I am one person who enjoys this cue line. Not any more than a Tascarella, Hercek, Searing or an Schick but I do love the cues just the same.

So while I am drooling about the pictures, is this cue once owned by Jeff Willings? Only trying to see if it was because a friend in my area - Paul - had that cue in his case a long time ago just prior to selling it to Jeff. What a fine example it was!

I do own a Black Boar and if I could get another playing cue I would. But I think my tastes are heading in a new direction because the BB's are just too difficult to locate or becoming too expensive to justify as a player. Appreciate the thread and the observations of all.

Now I want to see the latest cue maker’s talents on display.
Okay Mark, where is that painted Cuetech?

I just don't feel like the general public is ready for the unveiling of my skills, sir. While I'd like to show off the untapped talents within me.....I think I'm just a bit ahead of my time.

Well I wouldn't use retarded, but at 5 and no legitimate offers, I think something is out of whack.
