What if you could get a cue from a defunct company? Or a deceased cuemaker? What if you could go Back to the Future? It's 1977, the Bee Gees are Stayin' Alive, The Pinto and Vega are US's answer to the oil crisis, Sanford and Son, Happy Days are on the tube.. You walk into Palmer Custom cues and lay down the Huggy Bear bank roll on a custom cue and say.. Yo' my man Pete, what will your jive ass be making me for 4 large, baby... I need something that matches my 1977 El Dorado, with my disco ball...
Maybe it would look something like this...
After the Palmer cache joke of late March we got to thinking about a dream Palmer. What if Balner didn't pass away and he carried over the M to be the model 21. Like the J to the 16. What could it look like? What would be an accurate vision of a wavy veneer cue made for the third catalog. So after many discussions between Mark, Paul Rubino and myself we finalized our "dream" model 21. The above pictures are in progress. No one better than Paul Rubino to bring this vision to life. He has extensive experience in the Palmer / Paradise traditions of cuemaking and plus he had all the parts. What you see here is a cue made of ALL Palmer parts except for the handle and the pin. The rings, the plastic, the scarab inlays, the dots, the bands, all Palmer. Paul utilized two M blanks to make this cue, one for the forearm and one for the shafts and butt sleeve.
In case you noticed, one of the ideas was to reverse the wavy veneers and incorporate them into the handle. But it didn't flow with the concept. so it was nixed. You should just realize that Paul was able to duplicate the wave and match them up. One of Pauls many talents is his accuracy and his handiness with design and machining.
It will be finished with a cortland wrap and ready to roll in a few weeks.
