Zim's Rack Amateur Pool Tours Concept...

I've been thinking about expanding the Gateway Amateur Tour (GAT) concept to other locations across the Mid West. Other areas of interest are Kansas City, MO; Louisville, KY; Chicago, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Columbus, OH; Oklahoma, OK; Nashville, TN and more locations way into the future.

I'm sure there are similar concepts out there already, but can see the possibility for growth!

Here's the short version of the "Zim's Rack Amateur Pool Tours (APT)" Concept...
Have several regional tours running during the same calander months in various locations with a final tour stop open to a limited number of players that have to qualify to participate. The final tour stop could be over $20,000 added. Not bad for an AMATEUR Tour!

I would really like to hear some feedback on what you think. If anyone is from these areas and is interested in getting some info, just send me an email to michael@zimsrack.com or call our office 1-877-ZIMSRAK

Thanks,
Zim

Zim, I love the concept. It's going to take a lot of phone-calling and hard work, but if you can make it happen, it will be worth it. Hope you get it going. This will be a great way to keep pool alive and well in your region. Good luck! :)

Zim, I also like the idea of this concept. Sounds like an amazing plan for tournys around the country and then a big final (sorta like the Viking Tour Final). wouldn't mind seeing you go to this, looking forward to the 08 season

Thanks JAM! It will take some time to make contacts, but it's worth it.
Here's a run down on the Final Tour Stop Event Added money.

- Each Tour averages 40 players per event at $5 each, that's $200 collected per event, with 11 events that's $2,200.
- Each Tour adds $1,000 from host pool room revenue.
- Each Tour Adds $3,200; not including any commission from sales of sponsored merchandise.

A) $3,200 x 4 Tours = $12,800 (not including any commission from sales of sponsored merchandise)
That's $12,000 Added to the Final Tour Stop Event.
B) $3,200 x 6 Tours = $19,200
C) $3,200 x 8 Tours = $25,600

The top 64 players from each Tour qualify for the Final Tour Stop Event, that's 256 players. Of course not all will show up to participate, but I'll underestimate and say that 180 will take a shot at a $12,800 Added Handicapped Amateur Event.
180 x $40 entry fee (minus $10 in fees) = $5,400 + $12,800 = $18,200 Payout for a 180 player field of similar handicaps, no Pros, or Semi-Pros, just A level and below.

Obviously these figures are estimated and will vary from Tour to Tour, but are very reasonable estimations, from my experience with the GAT. This is the basics behind the Final Tour Stop Event. More info about the Tour Concept can be found here, http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=68615

Zim, there is a lot of execellent pool players in the Indianapolis area and I think you would get a good response from them.

Indianapolis is one of the areas I'd like to get started. I do have someone in mind and will talk to him this week.

I also have someone interested in the Louisville area and will also talk to him this week.

If we can get a couple more tours started this fall, we could have the Final Tour Stop added next September. Tour season starts in October and runs thru September.

Thanks,
Zim

Zim, you've said this is a handicapped event. How do you propose this? This is the same problem with the APA, handicaps are really subjective. Just because I am a 7 in one league doesn't really make me a 7 in all leagues.

However, if you ever get this worked out I would definitely be interested.

By having the tournament play be 8-Ball instead of 9-Ball (currently), the APA, VNEA, BCA, etc will give the tournament director a guide to hcp the players. Each tournament director will need to know a wide range of players and their abilities in order to be effective. I personally can't stand it when a player complains about me letting another player play because he's a "7" in the APA. I'm a B+ player and a 6-borderline 7 in the APA (8-ball). Semi-pros are also rated a 7 and there's no way I stand a chance playing a semi pro even. We hcp our players A, B+, B and C-below. APA 2-3 are basically your C players, 4-6 are basically your B players and 7's are B+ or A. There is no perfect hcp system on a national level, but we can get close. Again, hcps used by other organizations are only used as guides or a starting point.

Thanks for inquiring,
Zim

Is there someone that is knowledgeable of the sport and knows many players of all levels that might be interested in becoming the "Michigan Amateur Tour" Director? Maybe a pool room owner, billiards supply store owner, area League Operator, etc. Get me some names and contact info and I'll make contact with him/her.

Thanks,
Zim

Kansas Amateur Tour...

It looks like Wichita, Kansas and surrounding area has quite a few pool rooms.
Anyone from that area? Looks like we've got places to play, just need to find the right person for the job!
