Chalk on the rail

What, if anything, is the rule or etiquette about placing chalk on the rail to use as a marker for a bank shot?

I have a friend who does this all the time and he said that he has never heard that it is illegal. However, he doesn't know if there is any rule or etiquette about it. He most often plays on bar tables. I told him I would ask here becasue there are many people who would know.

Thanks, smart comments are always welcome but I would like a serious answer too.

3.43 ILLEGAL MARKING
If a player intentionally marks the table in any way (including the placement of chalk) to assist in executing the shot, it is a foul.

He can do it all day with me, and bet what he wants. If he needs chalk to mark the spot, he can't play that well.

Exactly. Most people play banks, kicks, and jump shots on feel, spin, ball speed, instinct, etc. The people who use "systems" and gimmicks can have them. Ask Efren what system he uses to kick. He "feels" it, he will say.

Thanks guys, I will pass the information on. Yeah, he is a "C" player but seems to do well half drunk on bar tables with other truckers.

Check out Freddys book, Banking With The Beard, it may change your opinion on systems.

I for one do not care where he places the chalk as long as it is blue side up. ;) :)

If you have a straight stroke and you know how to mark with the chalk. You can hardly miss a shot.

Saw Varner do it in a tournament. It really surprised me, thought everyone (including the ref.) knew it was a foul.

It isn't a foul, unless someone called it as a foul.

I think it's cheating and I KNOW, beyond all doubt, it ain't cool.

"Hardly" being the operative word here. My prior comment remains. I will gladly play this egg some Banks and he can use the chalk any way he wants.

Surely you jest? After that last "performance" I would have thought you would be more humble.
Fatboy and Bank Pool go together like oil and water. :)
