Ok guys this might be kind of long so bare with me here. I can't sleep.
Whilst I was trying I started to entertain, what I thought was a cool idea. With so much negativity and bad feeling floating around here lately, I thought this might bring a little excitement to the forum.

How about an AZ raffle for a cue? Now I'm not talking ANYTHING elaborate here. Just and honest, NOT FOR PROFIT raffle. Ok here was what I was thinking.

I would purchase a relatively inexpensive cue.....probably a production (possibly a custom from a cuemaker here) to be announced. I could spend maybe....$200.00-$300.00 or maybe a bit more.

I would sell real tickets, and would do a drawing that would be recorded(not video edited, I am an honest person) of me writing the names down on the tickets, placing them in say a coffee can with a lid, shaking the ever living out of it for like a min or two, and picking a ticket(blindfolded) or having the person recording do it. I could post it on youtube. ***Other options stated further in the thread. Please read on.***

Now I know I am not known by a lot of the members on here, so I could ship the cue to one of the forums highly respected individuals that EVERYBODY could trust. He/she would inspect and hold the cue until after the raffle(and video posted on youtube)and then they could ship it to the winner. I would not accept any payments for the tickets until this is done and is posted by that trusted individual. Hell, I will even pay the USPS priority mail shipping!!

Now the tickets would have to be purchased through paypal and there would be a limited amount sold. Like say the cue costs $250.00 and there were 25 people interested the ticket would cost $10.00 plus the .30 or so cents to cover the paypal fees. Or if there would be 50 people wanting to participate, it would be $5.00.

So the more people interested and willing to participate, the less the raffle tickets will cost. This will be no profit for me what so ever, actually I would be loosing the cost for shipping and the cost to buy the raffle tickets.

Also I am not allowed to participate in this. This is just for your guys and gals!!!

Everybody could think this is really, really corny or they could think its a wonderfull idea. DO NOT FLAME me for posting this. It's just after reading so many of the negative things on here, I wanted to do something that could be really positive and bring back some good spirit. There would obviously be a lot of details to work out here and am only posting to get a feel if anyone would be interested.

Again this is for NO PROFIT. It's only meant to be fun and I hope that's what it would be about.

Please don't send me a ton of pm's. Post it here so everybody can see and if people have questions or suggestions, it will be wide open. Nothing in private.

Ok guys, sorry so long, but let me know what you think.

I think it is a cool idea. Raffles are always fun and seem to be popular.

Instead of putting the names in a can and picking one, I would suggest maybe utilizing the New York State Lottery, since you're from New York, as your random name-picking mechanism.

After you receive the raffle entries, divide the number into 999, and then assign each raffle entrant their numbers. When the New York State Lottery number is drawn, the winner can be established in this manner. Just a suggestion for you to consider. :p

Good rep for you for a great idea. Also for replying in my thread so fast two times in a row. thanks!

I would do it if it was $5 - $10 but probably not for any more or less.

Yes, I want to keep this cheap and fun. Eh...that didn't sound so good!! I want it to be an inexpensive way to have some fun/excitement. So yes, I am hoping to get 25-50 people interested so it could stay along these lines.

And your welcome for the replies.....no need to say thanks.

Ok, I'm going back to bed as I have to get up for college/work in a couple of hours. I hope to see this thread full of post and interest when I get back to read it later tonight.

No-one else?

Sounds cool. Maybe you could also consider doing it with a cue made by one of the makers that posts here? Some may not have cues in that price range, but others may, I'm not sure. Just an idea that would add a little extra AZB touch to the raffle. :)

i would read more about holding "private/public" raffles before doing one. you just might save yourself some headaches.

Even if it cost a bit more for a non-production cue........

I like your idea of using a "local AZB cuemaker" like BHQ, Blackheart, Bryan Mordt, Varney or Dick Neighbors or any of the very helpful guys who contribute within the Ask the Cuemakers forum.

I'm in.......... no Cuetecs please.

Raffle

Raffles have worked very well on the forum where money was raised to help those in need. Raffles have worked with folks giving stuff away for free.

I prefer the idea of using lottery numbers with everyone's numbers listed here so we know who won.

Just be very clear up front with exactly how things will work. Folks can be ruthless if they do not think us AZ members are treating each other fairly.

You need to consider that some members might be located internationally, and shipping cost could very.

I'd do it for a really high end cue...Southwest, James White, Ed Young, etc. Don't really need another low end, but count me in if you go for something more expensive. I know the tickets would be more, but you may get more people in to balance it out. Good idea!
:p

Im in! I would just fritter the money on 1 pocket. I would have a better chance winning a raffle. Charlie D

I would like to participate also, but I don't do paypal. However, I can send a postal money order. If that is acceptable then count me in.
