A Professional without Integrity

One of our greatest players has Stiffed me for $400. He took two BreakRAKs with a promise of selling them at his local Pool Room & sending the company the money.

The player has been aproached a few times, over 2+ years, & PM'd here at the AZBilliard site, but the promises are never fulfilled. A couple of other high ranking Pros (friends of mine) approached the player at Allen Hopkins, about the rotten deal.

The player would rather be a liar & theif, than cough up $400. This doesn't seem right for a person to be that way. The future of Professional Pool may come. With folks like this, companies will have to be wary about sponsoring the players, which degrades their profession & their livelihood.

What do you folks think about this. These heroes of ours should be good people, not just good Pool Players.

this thread is worthless without names and pics. IMO

Too bad for all when generosity and opportunity are taken advantage of in a a negative way. Sorry to hear about it.

Guy is lucky you haven't spread his name yet. I might not have been so accomodating.

I did not add the name, because embarassing someone isn't the intent. I am asking the community about ethics & integrity.

i'd send him another pm message saying you're going to give his name on here if he doesn't at least commit to some sort of arrangement.

For the working joes who love pool, we get asked by some of these pros for financial help on occasion. It would be good to out those pros who are ethically challenged as a headsup for those of us who might be staking them or loaning some money. Naming them could save someone the same aggravation with the same player.

Right. Lecture us all for what this person has done...thanks. Put the name and it will have a purpose.

There are too many threads like this, IMO. Generally, I get the feeling that there are a lot of "entrepreneurs" that know very little about business.

Getting Stiffed

First, I'm sorry for the bad expierence with this player; but I have to say that without naming the individual you really give a blanket impression of pros in general. Normally I don't get involved in this crap but I'm very tired of "THIS HAPPENED TO ME BUT I DON"T WANT TO NAME NAMES". By not naming the individual your attempt at rfedemption is wasted. JMHO

Embarrass HIMSELF is all he's done... Why leave out his name, and keep the door open for others to fall prey to the same situation with him?

Post his name, and we're all protected from him.

When I see threads like this one I always wonder how much of a relationship the individuals had.

Was the arrangement made between two strangers with one seeking to piggyback on the fame of the other?

Just because someone is really good at something it does not follow that the individual is also a good person.

"Embarrassing someone isn't the intent"...WHAT!!!He stiffed you for over 2 years. He obviously doesnt have any ethics or integrity,SO PLASTER HIS NAME EVERYWHERE.

Too many of these instances.

Isn't this just another case of typical poolplayers being typical poolplayers.

Just another fine example of why Pool and Billiards can't get off the ground and the negative connitations that are associated with our sport.

Sorry again to hear about this deal. Hope you eventually get paid and that more poolplayers learn some lessons from these type of bad deals.

This appears to be a rhetorical question: what do we think about someone who takes property on loan with a promise to sell, but then doesn't give the owner the money.

If you are out to get the guy, well, get him. If you want your money, then do what you have to in order to get it. But asking if we approve of someone (allegedly) stealing from you... ;)

.....dude, there are Heroes and then there are Zeroes. Not just in pool, but in life. Personally, I think that we see fewer and fewer real heroes as time goes on.

Sean (sure wishing that trend would change)

I think posting his name is kinda like when you were little and your mom made you go back into the store and tell the owner you stole some candy. It would make everyone aware of him and make him ashamed to show his face. JMO.

IMO, without naming names this is just a "he said" situation.
Put a name with it and chances are we will hear the other side of the story (however lame it might be). Without a name everyone of stature becomes somewhat suspect as they get painted with the same brush.

2+ years ??? Man are you patient !!!

Give him one last chance and inform him that you will let everyone know what happened.

Then, name names...........

Russ.....

That stuff happens every day. Thats why all pros, Allison included, pay full retail for my work. I've seen too many pros beg free cues from makers with promises of playing/promoting them, only to sell them in the next city. I gave a j/b one time to a once WPBA top 10 for her to try out...she used it for quite a while....after getting major sponsorship she started using their cue. No problem...except she never returned my cue, never even said thank you, never even offered an excuse. Like I was suppose to just give her a cue to use and or sell if she deemed necessary. I even gave a very top up and coming east coast male player one of my j/b's to try out. When a friend of mine saw him make an incredible jump shot to win a match (and noticed the Varney) he asked him kind of tounge in cheek "what kind of j/b is that?".......he replied "Josey". My friend said he could see the Varney name clearly as he was holding it & the player just walked away. He was then later seen enjoying a cheeseburger while he sanded my name off the cue.  I'm lucky, thats only two cues but enough I learned a lesson. Other makers have had pro players do much, much worse...on much more expensive cues. So....now everyone pays.:)
