Okay, it's time to get this thing together. SEND YOUR MONEY NOW. Here is the official scoop for the 2008 DCC AZB/onepocket.org Forum Members Room. I'll update this post if there are changes/updates; so check it before you attend. Any suggestions for the room, just place in this thread and we'll discuss.

WHEN: January 4th through January 12th, 2008.

WHERE: Executive West Hotel, same room as previous years (?Shannon Room?).

WHAT DOES IT COST?: $25 for playing privileges. Anyone can hang out for free.

WHO DO I PAY?:
Checks payable to Steve Lomako. Send them to him at: The Rack, 28410 Joy Rd., Livonia, MI 48150. NO PAYPAL, NO CREDIT CARDS, NO "I'LL PAY YOU WHEN I SEE YOU AT THE DERBY" (a frequent request). We are not a business, and we are not a collection agency;all of the organizers wish to enjoy the Derby as much as you do. No refunds or transfers if you have to change plans (think of it as a donation to a worthy cause). Thanks for understanding. MAKE SURE TO PUT YOUR SCREENNAME AND YOUR REAL NAME IN WITH THE CHECK SO YOUR BADGE WILL BE ACCURATE!!!!!!!!

WHEN DO I PAY?: We will accept payment starting NOW. The cutoff is December 15th if you want to have playing privileges (organizers do not want to spend the holidays handling this stuff for the procrastinators).

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN RETURN FOR THIS HUGE FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION?: Your $25 get's you playing privileges in the room (and as you will see, finding table time at the DCC can be freakishly difficult if you are not a room member). We will also try to have bottled water, soda, and snacks available for free (as long as the funds and volunteers last). We will have a couple of "in-room" tournaments and give-aways as in past years. We always have a gangload of pro's passing through who will play challenges. We have some noted instructors who volunteer their time for mini-clinics.

HOW WILL PLAYING TIME BE ALLOCATED?: As before, there will be a list of allowable "games" (ie. race to 2 at one-pocket, race to 2 in 8-ball, race to 3 in 9-ball, race to 2 in 9-ball banks, race to 35 in 14.1). There will be membership cards for the members with playing privileges; and a rack on each table for the cards; which will be used like putting your quarter on a pay table. When your turn comes up, you play the person above you in the order; after the match your opponent leaves the table (win or lose) and you play the person below you in the order; then you leave the table after that match (win or lose). You can always sign right back into the order if you wish. Violators will be subject to disciplinary action from the Room Goons; which of course brings up the question:

WHAT IS A ROOM GOON?: In response to the venue requirements for dispute resolution (very rare in the past; but we must have a mechanism in place if we are to have the room); we have recruited some big, occasionally unruly guys to resolve any disputes, and to assure that everyone is well behaved. Serving this year will be JCIN, bignasty, and Steve Lomako (I also will be available to help resolve any and all room issues; but I can't beat anyone up). If any disputes or rulings are necessary, then find a Room Goon; the decision of the Room Goon (or me) is FINAL (even if it's wrong). Anyone disagreeing is subject to being barred from not only the AZB room, but also from the DCC venue as well. This has never been necessary, and I doubt it will ever be, but there you are. Anyone who doesn't like this will be forced to organize the room next year (we are not permitted to have the room unless we designate someone as "in charge").

PRO'S PLAY FOR FREE: Just so everyone doesn't immediately label themselves a "pro", we will have a list of all pro's who may play. If you don't have an official room playing privilege card, and if you are not on the official pro list; then DON'T PLAY IN OUR ROOM. If I've left someone prominent off the list, let me know immediately.

CAN I CONTRIBUTE EVEN IF I'M NOT ATTENDING?: ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY. We will raffle off the Justis RoadRunner case that Jack personalizes for us each year; as well as some other notable items to ALL WHO DONATE (even if they don't attend). In addition, we are permitted to have ROOM SPONSORS; so if you would like to display a banner and have your name attached to the room; or would like to display your wares in the limited space we have available; please let me know.

WHERE WILL ALL OF THE MONEY GO?: All funds go towards renting the equipment (Greg Sullivan PROVIDES THE ROOM FOR US - how cool is that?), buying refreshments, paying out the prizes for the in-room tournaments. Any funds left over will be saved for next years room. If we have a large surplus (hasn't happened yet) we will sponsor a professional competition at the DCC or a mini-tournament. This we've communicated to Greg Sullivan to help re-pay him for his consideration and assistance in helping our room thrive. We are also making a banner for Greg Sullivan - a Tenth Anniversary, Thank You Greg banner that hopefully will be signed by all DCC competitors.

ONE-POCKET GHOST COMPETITION: Steve Lomako is in the process of trying to organize a competition (either in our room, or in the tournament room) where pro's and amateurs can challenge the one-pocket ghost. More details as available.

CELEBRITY SCOTCH DOUBLES 8-BALL: There will again be a raffle; maximum 40 tickets to be sold at $20 apiece. There will be 2 winners; one will play as Jeanette Lee's partner, one will play as partner's with whatever pro Jeanette can hassle into playing with us (2 years ago it was some scrub named Efren Reyes, and we played on the television table; George Breedlove is our fall-back). Tickets go on sale NOW (PM me for details if you want a ticket). The match will be played late evening on Friday January 11th (after tournament play is completed). Here's a link to a thread describing the last event: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=24440&highlight=Royalty

WHO ARE THE ORGANIZERS?: Steve Lomako and Williebetmore are the only 2 individuals we could find that were seriously deranged enough to volunteer. All decisions by the organizers are final; even if horribly wrong (we welcome all input however). Boradriver will be making the room nametags. Sizl will again be making banners for the room. JCIN and bignasty have volunteered as Room Goons.

Willie, can we have a rematch to 100 albeit the tournament is only 8 days long? Maybe we could play to 75.

If Fatboy had to bank all five balls into his pocket, we might still be playing come Derby City time. :)

I used to play 9-Ball One Pocket on the bar tables. If you knew the two rail break shot, you had the nuts! Shhh Steve, it's a secret.

I'll have to "kick" it around in my head a little to see if I can come up with it.

Your secret is safe with me......it's the people I tell you have to worry about.

Eh.. I was going to donate $100.00, but I don't do checks. I haven't written a check in over a year. I really don't see why you guys aren't taking Paypal. It's basically the payment standard for the internet now. Lemme know when you change your mind on paypal, and I'll Paypal the $100.00.

Russ,

Thank you very much for the donation, it will be put to good use for an event the AZ room sponsers and you will be given credit and gratitude for your generosity.

You can just put a c-note wrapped in paper inside an envelope and send it or.......use your online bank site and send me a check (I do all my banking on-line and if a vendor isn't listed, they physically send a check to whomever I want), its as quick if not quicker than anything else.

Thanks again,
Steve

RC,
We appreciate the sentiment; but are not set up to accept Paypal (see official info thread for details) - WAY too much hassle and expense for such a shoestring operation.

On the other hand, we also have had some very vocal members who have claimed, "Jeez, I WOULD donate if you just had Paypal." When we finally broke down 2 years ago and told those people we would accept Paypal, NONE OF THEM SENT ANY MONEY; and we were out the time/effort/money that we spent setting it up.

It was the consensus of all organizers so far that things run just fine without the Paypal option. We might lose a few members; but the true pool fanatics will always find a way to participate - and participation has been very good the past 2 years.

Here is a photo of some action in the AZB room in 2007, not a bad place to hang out.

Actually, Willie... I DID donate by Paypal last year, remember? I donated either $200 or $300 for mini tournaments. I sponsored the one-handed mini tournament. I think I payed Jay, and Jay made sure the money got to DCC.

Steve, if I absolutely MUST pay by check, I'll have to figure out my electronic check option in my bank.

But I won't like it..

You will laugh at how easy it is.

This is correct. Russ, I'd like to do this One Pocket thing at the AZ Room if we can this year. Where each player has five tries to see how many balls they can run in one pocket. Maybe if this goes you can donate something to this. I'd like to make it a $1,000 Added event to attract top players. Should be entertaining for the AZers as well.

I'm still not sure how doable this is. Willie, Steve let me know please.
