A friend of mine and a great pool player (Leil Gay JR) is out there BROKE and on the road. I sent him a little dough but right now what he really wants is a JOB and a place to live. Can anybody help with either ?

He is also a good player to stake in money games. He can match up with anybody playing 1-Pocket or Straight Pool.

If interested in helping out, post here, pm, email or call me and I will get you in touch with him.

He is the 1997? US Open 1-Pocket Champion
2X Viking Tour Champion and DIE HARD fight to the death action game player.

Leil Gay - http://azbilliards.com/thepros/2000showplayer2007.cfm?playernum=152
2006 Winnings: $10,000.00
2005 Winnings: $150.00
2004 Winnings: $3,091.00
2003 Winnings: $1,840.00
2001 Winnings: $675.00
2000 Winnings: $3,446.00

He is staying in a Hotel by the week right now but that ends Friday. If you are looking for someone to stake maybe you could run him around a bit or stake him in a few local tournaments.

Mike,

One of the kids that worked for me (Andy) is there in Mesa. I'll call him tomorrow and then get with you. Damn JR, tell him we'll do something.

LOL, I know Richie Richeson doesn't. At my other place he was playing Richie gettin 9-8 LOL and playing 2 poker machines at the same time and beat Richie about 25-30 games, they played about a day before Richie figured he couldn't crack him.

JR is such a good guy, maybe I should just get him back here. I know he was another with high hopes on the IPT and got a turd burger and no fries instead. I'll talk to you tomorrow.

If he doesn't mind coming an hour south down to Tucson, I can probably hook him up with a job. I'll find out for sure and let you know by Fri. Hopefully someone up there will be able to help him out though. He's a great player and very fun to watch. At the very least I might have to go up there and donate a little by playing him some 1-hole.

Arizona has lots of jobs at Christmas time. Think all he need do is pick up the newspaper and start calling.

Find some nice private pool table and get some one on one POOL LESSONS. I don't know if Leil is a good teacher or not but it couldn't hurt to try him out. Gambling is OK but I want to know what he is thinking.

REP to you for trying to help out!

JoeyA, thats a great idea. Leil's mental game is stronger than anyones I have ever met. We ran around on the road together for 4 solid years and I know for a fact that it made me a better action player just listening to him. When Shawn Putnam ran with me for the next 4 years I am pretty sure many of the things that Leil tought me rubbed off on Putnam which most likely helped with his game to.

LESSONS are a great idea.

When I talked to him last night he said he called many and was also trying to work for a Day-2-Day Temp agency but because he has no car he keeps getting passed over for jobs.

Believe me, when I sold his Cogniscenti here in the AZ forums and gave him the 2+G's and he told me he was heading out West to find a Job. I had no doubt he would do everything he could to make it work. He didn't go broke from gambling, in fact he didn't gamble at all. The expenses ate up his money. he's trying, he could just use a little luck right now.

I mean c'mon, think about it. What jobs are there for a guy that has been playing pool at the professional level full time since the Camel Tour ?

I can see the application now. When was your last job.... um 1992?

Leil played professionally on the WPA. He traveled to Spain, Taiwan and Germany on that tour. He then played on the Camel Tour and the IPT along with many of the regional tours. Before that he took his 1st road trip at the age of 8 with his dad then was on the road FULL TIME when he was just 15. He's 50 now.

After a few PM's offering a little road scratch (Which I am sure Leil thanks all of you for the offers) I want to let you know that money only goes so far. What he really wants/needs is a steady job and a place to call home. He is willing to work to pay his bills and start a new life.

Please don't take this request for help as looking for a handout.

my suggestion for Leil is get some cardboard from a dumpster, borrow a marker, write "will work for food" on the board; then stand at a busy intersection. then.........

.........the Mesa Policia will give him a place to stay and a work detail each day !

seriously, most Police Departments have a "hardluck" fund. they will buy a bus ticket to somewhere else to get a vagrant out of their jurisdiction.

don't know Leil's age, but sounds like people have been fronting him for too long. he needs to grow up and get a real job !

Mr Flanigan, your compassion is only equaled by your lack of a reading comprehension.

I can do nothing for Leil in AZ, but if he is interested in a job and starting afresh, I am fairly certain I can help him out here in AL.

Low cost of living (I can arrange for an apartment cheap to reasonable), reasonable amount of jobs (I can find him one quickly), not much for pool here though. I can also stake him if anyone here would play and set him in a couple tournaments to win easy $$$ to get started.

Just an earnest offer from someone who likes to see people succeed.

6 hours and 6 minutes is a bit long to drive for a one day tournament but you still get special invite. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Ohatchee,+AL,+United+States+of+America&sa=X&oi=map&ct=image

Tell Harold M to come visit some time.

Where is Buffalo Billiards located?

I will tell Harold.

If he can come up with the $125 entry (with all side pots), then we have an all around event this weekend at Alexanders in Phoenix. Quick way to make some money.

We also have a ring game scheduled for Alexanders on Friday night, but that is winner take all.

Mike, give him my # if he is interested.

No money, no transportation and no place to live soon. My suggestion is go down to the public assistance office and go on welfare/food stamps for awhile till he gets back on his feet. They'll help finding him a job and a place to live. A portion of our tax dollars are used for this purpose, he should take advantage of this program.
