Normally I would report all the names of the Champion players in attendance at the event but this is an AMATEUR event and there are no champions here.

Howevere there are many AZr's in attendance.

I hate it when this happens.

I just had to disqualify a player from the event.

At the beginning of every event I tell the players the rules about our Amateur Tour and ask them to please come up and take themselves out of the event if they are either playing under a false name or if they have won any open tournaments. During the event I check players names to verify who they are and if they have won any opens. As I was doing this I came across a player "Tim Orange" ( http://azbilliards.com/thepros/2000showtourney2005.cfm?eventnum=110 ) and noticed that he had won an open event so I subsequently disqualified him. I refunded the player his money and the buyers money in the auction.

Anyway, it sucks when I have to do this. But as a note to all players wishing to participate in the Amateur tour. Please make sure you know your status before trying to enter any of our Amateur events. I do this for your and other players protection under our rules.

Under most circumstances i would not refund a player in this situation any monies but I truly believe Tim was not trying to pull a fast one but simply misunderstood the rules.

This sounds funny to me for some reason - I guess I see it that some amateur players are still well known, even if they don't have a "champion" title.

Who are the AZers, too?

Thanks,
Melinda

Do They Have To Pass A Steroid Test ???

Jesus, for just a minute there, I thought you were going to tell us that you had disqualified Fast Larry, when it turned out that he wasn't ANY of the people that he thought he was.
Doug
( he'd also have to improve three balls just to move UP to Amateur ) :)

How far back does it go for winning an open event? Also what truly qualifies as an open event is a hard call. Here is why. We could have an Open event that pulls top players or one that pulls very few or even no top players. The winner would still have technically won a "Open" event even though the field was filled with all amateur players. I know many of the players there today have won "Open" events. Most were not strong fields, but some have won them with strong fields if you go back several years, or count recent bar table events. The Macon events are Open events for instance. Sometimes the fileds are pretty strong there, but they are bar table events. Recent winners of those played today. Tim is a strong player, but there were stronger in todays tournament.

yeah i know several of those too that were stronger than tim o. and considering i am the one who told tim about the tourney i felt really bad when i heard of this and some of the others that were still "allowed" to play for some reason.

Cueman, I go back as far as I can given the printed and online material available. I use AZ and IP frequently to research player stats and I stay as up to date as possible by reading regional and national magazines. The KEY words here are printed and online material. I know some players sneak by on this rule but I also try to use my best judgement from my years of experience. It's not a perfect system but its the one I use. Basically the minimum guideline is that all players that are listed on AZ or IP as winning OPEN events are not elligible to participate on the Viking Cue Amateur 9-Ball Tour. We also have other rules to protect against known road players, past professionals and players using false names. Also, given our rules that disqualify players that place in the top 4 three times or win 2 events the system will tend to correct itself over time. This is the 1st year the Amateur tour has been in the South and so far it has a really good track record and the events are getting bigger and better all the time.

I was just asking Mike some questions. By the way this Jughead has run hundreds of tournaments. I have no desire for that head ache any longer. I will let Mike have those headaches. :)

Yep that was me. I enjoyed our match. You played good yesterday and glad to see that you cashed in the event. Do you know who won?

Brian tyler won.

Jason Stemam took 2nd. Jason is a local kid that everyone knew. They all said he played getter than he ever did before.

Congrats to all players.

Now here is the BAD NEWS. As many of you know this was a TEST EVENT to see if the Viking Tour will be switching over some of our OPEN events to Amateur events. Based on the response from this event (60 Players) it definately looks like we will be making a gradual change to more Amateur events. In the near future I will be having more Amateur Only events in different market cities to test the stability of Amateur Only events along with testing our system for eligible participants. Please make sure to support these additional events in the future if you want us to have many more larger money added Amateur events. The BAD NEWS is for the top players since this will start a trend towards more Amateur only events by the Viking Tour which other tours will follow. However, the Open players need not worry yet because we will not abandone our open tour until there is a set pro system in place for those players to advance in.

Thank you for your support !

What about those players whom you consider too good to play in your Am. events but have real jobs or aren't good enough to play on a "pro tour". I guess those players who have invested hard time improving their games are just shit out of luck, huh?
