Should there be a place to openly discuss cues in the Cues section. So FS threads don't become hijacked. A place where pricing, cue maker time abuse, secondary market, etc.. can be discussed openly without disturbing the For sale section.

Well, it's no secret that I have always felt it was 'poor form' to make derogatory comments concerning pricing, in particular, within another's FS posts.

I do like this idea, however, what is to keep someone from posting a link in a FS thread to the thread concerning a discussion of that particular cue? I can see this happening very easily.

Unfortunately, with the increased growth here with all the newer members, a lot of the 'common courtesy' we used to enjoy in FS threads is all but gone. It seems like anymore, to post a FS thread here requires the OP to don protective tactical gear and to be ready for 'battle'.

A shame, really.

Thats ok. It is what it would be for. Keep the discussion separate. If someone wanted to say hey, this cuemaker, or seller is nuts for asking this much, and they link to an ad, a website or whatever, thats what it's for.

This is whats discussed anyways. I talk to about 6-10 people every day and this is open discussion in the cue world. We discuss how nice this cuemaker is doing that, or doing this.. and this way we can bring that discussion to the forefront. We also know when a cue maker is dogging people due to pricing, delivery time etc..

Yes, we should have a subcatgory. Look at this -

And yes I know the price was reduced once. If TS cues are in such demand I would think this one would have sold by now. The other TS cue at Chalkers with the horses in the butt has been for sale for an awfuly long time also.

I'm curious why some will sell within a day or two and others will site for many many months. Both of the cues I mentioned are really nice looking cues.

Here is the answer to my comment:

THAT'S A CONVERSATION THAT I WON'T TOUCH WITH A TEN FOOT POLE IN A PUBLIC FORUM.

Really.. thats a good discussion. Maybe it was the seller. Maybe someone liked the other seller better than the other guy. Maybe the other seller is to high, maybe people don't like horse butts. This conversation would be better in another forum, NOT under a TS for sale thread.

I think in general that most forum members use two, maybe three forum sections,

Wanted/for sale
cue gallery
ask the cuemakers

Even in these three, questions that should be in other sections are asked (and I have been guilty). The wanted/for sale sections sees everything because everyone knows that it is looked at more than any other. I admit that I hardly ever look in other sections unless I am searching for something specific.

I agree and herein lies the problem. I am selling a Scruggs, or Weston, Mottey whatever. I list it at xxx amount. I list it because it's forsale and I really don't want the ad used by someone else promoting something else by tearing into my cue or cuemaker just because. In the F/S section the only thing should be the ad, and any subsequent offers. But I am not against what someone in the other poll suggested. Lock it down after the ad goes out there.

i think that's a great idea. this forum is definately being misused albeit the most fitting perhaps to get responses from an educated crowd.

I think that would be awesome...because I like to read what people have to say about particular cues. Before I buy one I usually like to read as much info about the makers and the style of cue. Some people on here seem quite impatient in answering questions that have been answered before, and I guess I understand that but a section devoted to just cue based questions would really save someone like me a lot of searching.
Just my opinion though.

I MADE THE REPLY THAT HE IS REFERRING TO. I WASN'T GOING TO BASH PERCEIVED VALUE OF A CUE IN A FOR SALE THREAD. IT WASN'T THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

I must have missed it....

ps: Choice 3 and 2 are the same. :D

Well . . . do 'ya punk?

If people would steer their "comments" on cues to the main forum, and keep the FS forum as strictly "Sales related", I think it would be a benefit . . . but that won't be easy to do.

Most of the people who post stuff for sale do a great job, and between the builders and all of the accessory folks there's a ton of good input . . . hopefully, most of the posts won't evolve to stuff like this . . .

"That cue's a piece of crap . . . it hits like a lightning rod . . . and your nothin' but a maggot . . . it's overpriced . . . now lower it or else!!

ha-ha!

On a car board I visit, comments are NOT allowed in the "cars for sale" section. There is a "market discussion" section for these comments.

It seems to be working well.

I believe that the current forum format could be improved for listing For Sale items... and for listing Wanted to Buy items.

My suggestion is to retain the current forum but not allow anybody other than the OP to post to the thread.

Persons requesting information about the item for sale (or for wanted to buy item) would simply PM the OP and ask the question directly (much like an interested person who reads a Want Ad in the paper would call the seller and ask their questions).

If the OP believes that any additional (or corrected) information will be useful to the whole population, then he/she could then edit the original post and update the information concerning the cue. Edits could also be done by the OP for price reductions or any other valid reason.

All threads of this type would be time-limited. Threads would be automatically deleted (or alternatively archived for later search-type retrievals) after a certain number of days (10?... 14?... 30?). Bumps could be limited to not more than 3 or 4 over the life of the thread... if blatant bumps were to be allowed. If this idea were adopted, perhaps blatant bumps would not even be necessary!!... how nice would THAT be?

These are just some of my suggestions to address some of the criticisms that have been voiced here.

And yes, if this were done, then it also makes sense to add a forum for people to discuss other issues relative to buying/selling/trading cues and billiards equipment in general.

..........................blah blah blah blah blah blah :D

I totally disagree with the idea of not allowing any other posters. Let's say there is an obvious mistak <---- :-) in the listing thread and 200 million AZers catch it and PM the seller. MAILBOX FULL.

There is a legitimate question that is on the minds of several drillion viewers and the seller is offline. MAILBOX FULL.

For one question that could have been answered in one reply by the seller in the thread and satisfied 400 Quadrillion AZers.

I totally disagree with closing of the capabilities for members to post Replies. The original idea of a discussion thread is very valid so crap like we are discussing right now wouldn't be in the Wanted/For Sale column.

Just my 9 quintillion cents worth:)

Question......

There Are Some No Votes On The Poll. Can Someone, Preferrably A No Voter, Tell Me Why A Cue Talk Section Would Be Bad?

That's what I have been saying. It works other places, why not here.

There is more positive to this kind of B/S/T than negative

I think it would be very helpful, as long as there are no CUE Pimps allowed!!!;) I think there are a number of us who would like to share information and learn as much as possible about this subject!!

Thanks for asking!!
