IDEA: AZer Virtual Cemetery Forum

Earlier today, I saw the post by DeadPoked about OldHasBeen, who would have been 62 years old, today. With that honorable post in mind, I offer this idea...

Why not have an AZer Virtual Cemetery Forum, where we could start a thread in honor of each AZer who passes away? If someone wants to read or write about them, they could simply find the thread started in their honor. Maybe the user names could also be retired into the cemetery forum area, for folks to continue to find posts and other info by/about them.

What do you guys think? Who do we need to contact to get a virtual cemetery started up? Is this something for Mr. Wilson? I'm new at this suggestion stuff.

...............imo

I wouldn't mind being put in your proposed graveyard when I go, but would I have to STAY there ? Forever ?

Think the idea is a good one.

Ah, slow on the draw, as usual. This is not a new idea and has been brought up a number of times by AZ members.

You'd probably be stuck with the one you left with!

I really like the idea of a virtual cemetery on the forum. A few folks have died since I got on here and I think we need a way to honor their memory, other than just having a thread weaving around in the forum, only to be lost in the great abyss of posts. If we had a separate area just for that purpose, I think it would be great.

GREAT IDEA, chances are some of the more prolific posters will still be pounding their keyboards long after the reaper came calling....

Personally, I'd like to see it called a Memorial Thread.

That's kind of a good idea, too.

But, if we manage to get them to retire the usernames and their other info, like location stuff and posts (the same stuff you get when you click on the username, now) to a different location, specifically for this purpose, it would be almost more like their username and info would be their "legacy gravestones" that they picked out by themselves and the memorial threads left about each one would be the same as sharing our memories of them at their funeral.

Regardless of what we call it... cemetery, memorial, new life, "bed-o-bones", etc., I think it's a grand idea.

Appropriate

Very appropriate. Ideas and memories from past AZBrs should be saved for the future and current AZBrs. Nice idea.

Memorial thread does sound better. Do I have to pay for my plot in advance? I would like to be under a tree and have an upright stone. ;)

I am not sure that would work. They would still be brought up in "various" threads (anyway) if it were relevant.

If you want to find posts on a particular deceased poster, you can put there nick into the search bar and it will pull up any reference to that person. (If you start a deceased thread, they will still come up in other posts anyway)

I think haveing a memorial "thread" is kind of a waste ...(nice thought though)

I would rather see the members list updated to show if a particular poster has passed. (aka change the font color and sub title)

Example: Rude Dog has (Dumb & Dumberer) - A am farily certain a Mod could change that to Deceased.

That way people that are not "in the know" will not have to wonder why Rude Dog is not replying to thier PM.

I like the upright stones better, too. They have more character.

I agree that their link should remain in the main members area with a notation of some sort that identifies them as deceased, but I think it would be nice to have a deceased members list, too. That way, if someone can't remember the person's username, but remembers they are deceased and their username started with a B, they could start searching in the deceased members section, under the B's. Both links (from the list of members and from the list of deceased members) could go to their page with all the info, like OldHasBeen's info page at http://forums.azbilliards.com/member.php?u=2381 (Some of us are getting a little older and our memories could really use a little help like that!)

But, a separate forum for acknowledging and sharing about the deceased members, so each one can have a thread dedicated to remembering him or her... I really like that idea. It helps a lot of folks deal with a death easier, if they can share memories after a person has died.

We have how many separate forum areas, now? The Main Forum, W/FS, Tournaments, Ask the Cuemaker, etc.. One more isn't going to hurt. Especially one like this. Memorials... Whatever we call it. I think it's a great idea. I"m glad to see some others agree.

Does anyone know if any forum folks who could make something like this happen are watching this thread? I'd really like to get some of their input about how they think it should be set up. They're the ones who would have to design and program it all. I'm sure someone would have to approve it, too.

Hijacked!

Hmmm... Leave it to me to take over your thread, CrownCues! Sorry about that. I think I just got excited about the prospect of such a forum. It just seems like such a great way to remember those who believed in this place enough to be involved. I'd really like to see something like this started.

I remember a couple of folks passing away since I joined about a year ago, but can't remember who they were. That's part of the reason I like your idea about starting a forum. We would be able to find threads and listings to help us remember them.

If we started a forum like that, there should have to be some kind of required proof, like a link to an existing obituary, or funeral home listing, or something like that, so they didn't list anyone who was still alive.

How many members have died since the forum started? Does anyone remember who they were?
