Drivermaker Holiday Invitational Update (scores in order of posting)

Well, here are the scores so far. I encourage everyone to compete - measure yourself against your fellow members (and hopefully against some of the pro's). If you don't want to assess your pool skills, then perhaps you should take up knitting instead.

Remember there is a prize for the winner from Drivermaker.

First prize = $50,000 cash, 2005 Corvette convertible, and all-expense paid trip to Bermuda.
Would you believe $10,000, a Volkswagen beetle, and bus fare to Atlanta?? Would you believe a free postage stamp, a Hot wheels Corvette, and directions to the bus station??

Some random thoughts for my weekly update:
#1 - We will accept scores until Tuesday, January 4th at 5 P.M. EST. I will collate results that evening and post the winners by Wednesday I hope (NO BRIBES - but I will accept donations for the Williebetmore Home for Wayward Women).

#2 - As far as prizes go, I'm not positive that we can count on the Corvette and the 50K from D'maker; so take solace in measuring yourself (and avoiding the scorn heaped on all who fail to participate).

#3 - Drivermaker is now LEADER IN THE CLUBHOUSE!!!

#4 - To all the competitors/studs/heroes who are participating: check your scores below for accuracy, and supply any missing info (just edit your original post in the "sticky" thread, not in this thread). We must at a minimum know your table length. The competitors will be grouped by table size (Woody and GoldenChild and Breakup and Muxy and jjinfla, this means you).

#5 - To all the losers/wimps/chimps who are not participating: GET THE HECK AWAY FROM THIS THREAD!! You should be heading for the table so you can post some scores, or perhaps just call up the backbone store and see if they have any on sale for Christmas. If you can't complete all 100 racks, just post what you can - we are all interested (though only competitors completing 100 racks are eligible for the fabulous prizes), and it exempts you from all the vicious personal attacks soon to follow.

Players Threatening to Compete:

Everyone who isn't gutless (pro's are excluded from such derision because they have actual jobs and skills, but we would love to have them compete all the same).

Good job Willee...I have a long memory and will be coming down with the wrath of Thor in '05 on those that didn't participate or complete. Even if you average 40, it doesn't matter. Do yourself a favor, just to see where you stand and what you might have to work on regarding your game.
BTW, Merry Christmas to everyone.

I second that. Hell, I averaged 76! I still posted my scores. I would hate to think that I'm the worst player on this forum...lol.

Trust me....you're not. That's why they ain't posting or gave up after a few racks. Reality can be a real swift kick in the nuts. You did a good job, just keep working at it like all of us.

RZ,
I think you are misunderstanding how the results are going to be interpreted. After completion of the event, we are going to think you are BETTER THAN EVERY SINGLE poster that doesn't participate (except for the pro's, who have actual skills and jobs). That puts you in the top 30 players already!!

Yesterday after I finished playing a session I went to the bar for a beer (this tourney can be pretty hot dusty work). A fellow that I have never seen before walks up to me from across the room and says “ I was watching you shoot and you obviously enjoy playing very much, it was pretty to watch” Shocked I responded “yes I do enjoy playing quite a bit, thank you for your comments”. This was definitely a surprise particularly if you look at my scores, I would not have used the word “pretty”. I think what he really wanted to say but had difficulty articulating was “Man you got guts!”

Lol...that makes me feel better. I've been thinking about trying this again since I'm now getting more comfortable with the changes that I've been working on and the stroke is much more natural then it was. I'm positive that I could/should get into the 901-1200 range.

I just did a little math. There are 2,903 active members on AZ. 21 of which have scores posted in the Drivermaker Holiday Invitational. Since it is justifiably assumed that the players in the tourney represent the elite of what AZ has to offer. My current average of about 110 places me well in the top 1% on AZ. WOW! The rest of those slugs must really suck! Are there that many members that take no pride in their own credibility?

Merry Christmas

breakup,
When I watch the WPBA pro's I am always impressed by the elegance of their game, and don't really dwell on their appearance (which is good, or my wife would never let me watch them or play with them). True pool lovers always notice the skills.

Having said that, are you entirely sure that guy wasn't gay??

If you want to do it again and have the time, be my guest. You can either leave your first score up there and compare your improvements or delete your first score and repost the new. I'd like to do it also, but there's too much crap going on with the holiday.

Been watching nostalgic agent 86 Maxwell Smart lately ? :p

I still haven't had time to fool around pool table, I'll try to finish at least a few sets before Xmas...

My problem is the time. This is a busy time for me. Playing 10 racks of 15 balls takes quite a bit more time than I have. I'll give it a try by breaking it up into intervals and I'll have to tell my practice partner that I won't be able to practice with him for a while. Maybe I'll see if he wants to try it too. See if we can make it a competitition or something.

i've done 6 out of the ten, but lateley i've been playing ok in league and just want to keep practicing the way i have been, rather than dump my regular practice and do my ten racks. Having said that, I still hope to complete my ten by ?? (when is it? Christmas or new years that we are supposed to finish by).

Dennis

p.s. I found that I played a little better the last few sets by stopping and studying the table quite a bit more when there were about 9 left, trying different things in my mind and changing my last 5 a few times. I'd think my last 5 were gonna be for example 6,8,9,11,15 and then I'd start looking at other possible endings and maybe take the 6 and 8 off earlier and have an easier out with another couple in the last five. I'm not used to having to think that much. Anyway , congrats to all who participate. Dennis

I'm glad I started this up again. It shows that I have improved over the past year and a half. The break is most important. Getting a good spread with hopefully no balls tied up and leaving the CB somewhere in the center. Then sink a half dozen balls in an area. Then plan your route for the final 8 or 9. Poor (stupid) planning found me making the 6th ball left with no shot on the low ball. Or making the 7th ball left and being out of line on the 6th ball to get to the low ball. Dumb, dumb, dumb!

It takes a lot of confidence in one's ability.

DM,

Don't be too judgemental. I've been out of town doing my "real" job for a couple weeks, I'll get back into it this weekend. Realize some folks have other responsibilities. Only 4 sessions left.

Could someone re-post the rules for this little test?
I have some time off for the holidays, and would like to try this.
